To be frank, I'm not quite a responsible parent when it comes to following the progress of my kid in school. Sometimes I even forget to check and sign on his handbook, not to mention the missing circulars once in a while.
I could - at best - let you have a glimpse of the so-called course design, say, in English language. The second term of Y2, they had three themes. I only remember two of them: Ocean and Africa.
Take "Africa" as an example, each student was given two (or three) countries in Africa to research on and tell the class about what they learn through their own research. Basically, they should tell the class about the country's population, currency, famous exports, etc. At the very least, they know better than I did, say, there are Republic of the Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo.
I can't say for the others but my kid does know more about Africa other than Egypt, the pyramid, mummies, River Nile, Victoria Falls and savannah.
CKY does give students homework and have tests and exams (assessments so-called). Parents know - through interviews, class observations, messages/exchanges via handbook - the progress, stengths and weaknesses of their kids. It's just that parents are not often informed in advance so as to better 'prepare' their kids for higher marks in a test or dictation.
I would say I'm content with my kid's progess in school. But I dare not to say CKY is a perfect school and it suits 'every' kid. In fact, some children might have greater achievements in traditional schools, and some can be really too laid-back for a pressure-free school like CKY.
At the end of the day, you know your kid better than a school does.
