If you applied this year and not successfully get in, in the reply letter, they will ask you will you interested in the written examination. Last year, I wrote them and regularly checked their website, when they released the dates for second application, I called them and provided additional info.
DBS called us on the second day after SSPA result released, they shortlisted 90+ students for 16 vacancies. The written examination was 2 days later, and the announcement was 2 days after examination. The examination papers were very difficult. If your son wants to get in, keep him to revise Chinese, English and Maths.
Even your son get in finally, as he may miss the grading examination. He is non-graded and only gets in split classes and not elite classes (Class D,P,S). The class discipline is not very good and generally most boys are good at non-academic dimension, like sports and music or other special talents.
As some parents PM me and asked a meaningful question, I would like to add in here:
Even the boy got into split class, after the final examination of G7 (F.1), the best 114 students will be allocated into 3 elites classes according to English, Chinese and Maths. So don't give up.
