My kid was born in 2002 and studying in a local kindergarten in Kowloon Tong. I didnt think of IS before, because I want him to learn Chinese, but I knew recently that RC has good Chinese lessons (PTH speaking, reading and writing), therefore I am interesting in it now.

Please give me opinions if there is any vacancies in yr 1, then I should apply for yr 2 (2008/2009) or which year or how to apply it ?

Any idea on the admission written test, how could the little kids complete with this test??

Hi jennyc8218,

I called couple months ago and asked the same question, basically the admission goes by year of birth so for 2002 one must apply for yr2 admission for year 08/09. My son was born late Dec/02, i asked if I could apply for yr1 for 08/09 so he can be a big boy, but the answer was no.

My daughter was also born in Oct.2002. They also told me to apply 2008/09 Year2. It is no places now for Year 1. So, any admission written test or what format of interview? Pls advise! Thanks!

I do not think there would be written test for Year 1 and 2. May be other parents can confirm that?

I just submited the application form for my son, because we just plan to move back to hk.  I want to know all about the RC.
And, How keen for the competition of yr 1 08/09?  Is any chance for our late application?

Be careful.
RC's Chinese is very simple.
I was once very interested in. So, I asked my friends about ESF's Chinese standard. And I talked to a ESF girl personally. I find out their Chinese is very simple.
It's 2 years lower than normal school.

RC 的中文真的太淺，P3 的學生，中文堂學的依然維持在非常簡單的對答，如問問孩子住哪裡，家裡有甚麼成員，電話號碼是甚麼，寫的只是數目字一至一百和自己的名字，再加些 "妹妹" ， "哥哥" 等，根本只是幼稚園中文，不是只低兩級 !

同級分"淺"班和"深"班, 簡體班同繁體班, 個個學生去的班都唔同.

小一開始著重漢語拼音, 比本地學校的普通話堂教的拼音快

My daughter is Y1 student right now.

I don't know how to judge their Chinese lesson is too easy or too difficult.

But, one thing I do remind myself that Chinese under RC's cirriculum is the second language subject, but not primary one.  Primary language is of course English.  So, how come we should compare its Chinese standard with local ones.

Furthermore, learning Chinese under IS environment, family support will be more important, I think.  Students of IS should have more chance to learn English, and if the family still 遷就 them by using English, students' Chinese capability will be limited!!

In fact, I don't have any valuable experience I can share with you.

One thing you need to remember is to ensure your son really relax and enjoy during the process. And, that will be fine! No need to do any rehearal, if your son has had basic English communication skill. One more thing is to ensure your son can write his name, father and mother's names are even better!

oh, thanks a lot for your info. My son can understand English but he is late in his language development by several months. So, he still cannot clearly present himself, in particular his pronounciation is not accurate at all. Hope this would not hinder his interview performance.
