Dear All,

My girl was born in 2002 Aug, this year I am going to appky local primary school for her.
But after 3 interviews, she told me suddenly that we don't like any of it. And the only one she like was BEACON HILL ESF (Which she never go there before). But may be she passed by everyday-we lived in Beacon hill.

Therefore my husband and I want to give her a try. But the first thing I will do for her is:
1) Apply the Canadian passport for her as I am a Canadian
2) Find a native teacher for her and let her pratice more before interview.

Do you think it will help? Anyone with the same experience?

So far my girl was studying in a local but english basis kindergarten. She can read and understand when you talk to her, but she is not very strong in conversation.
At home we speak Canatonese most of the time.

Do you think she can have a chance for interview if I hand in the form let's say on March or April 08?

Please share...................

Birthing in Aug 2002 means that your daughter should apply Yr two in ESF.

You have to submit your application by NOW for 2008 admission. And you have to wait in quene.

Dear achow,

A foreign passport will not get any bonus to the ESF application.

The admission requirement is mainly on the child’s spoken English.

My kid is studying in ESF school and don’t have foreign passport.

Besides, the Primary One students of ESF school should be at five rather than six for local school.

Dear achow

You'd better to call the school and see how long is the waiting list.  Anyway, they will verbally tell you your waiting position but it's subject to your submission of application form.

Please note that you've to wait for very very long time if you do not apply grade 1 (5 years old) during their enrollment period.

If you know your waiting no. , you will go ahead to proceed local school for your daughter.

You may check with school first.  Good luck:

ESF Admission Criteria

Admissions criteria

  • Places will be offered to successful applicants subject to availability.
  • Only one application may be submitted per student.
  • Students can only apply to the school in their zone (except Year One and Seven students applying during central applications).
  • Students must be able to cope with an English-medium curriculum. Please see language requirements
  • We prioritise applications by category (see below) and by date of application.
  • Applicants in category one will be invited for interview before those in category two, regardless of the date of application.
Category One

Children who speak English as a first or alternative language but do not speak Cantonese and/or read and write Chinese characters.

Category Two

Children who can access the local system but who also meet ESF's entrance requirements.

Within each category priority will be given to students who:

  • are siblings of children already attending an ESF school;
  • are attending an ESF Educational Services Ltd Kindergarten (for Year One only);
  • are former students returning from a period overseas;
  • have a parent who is a full-time employee of ESF;
  • are the children of former ESF students.

Dear All,

Thank you so much for your kind advice, really appreciate.
Yes, I am going to apply Grade 2 for her since she was born in 2002.
No matter how long I have to wait, but I will go to hand in the form within next week, and in the other hand, I will go to apply local school for her. (As myself like very much Choi Kai Yau and which her brother was studying in this school).

Thanks again for sharing and have a nice day.

If you like CKY, you may also consider RCHK in Ma On Shan.

The drawback of CKY now is its mobile campus that would be improved in 2009 when its new campus is built.

Dear Balance.,

Are you talking about Renaissance College? Or else?
If is Renaissance, noticed that there were a lot of people applying this school and I am sure is tough to get in.

CKY is not bad as my son was studying there for 2 years.
Now he can speak and can understand very good in English. Especially Manderine which he knew nothing in the beginning when he just get in this school. And now he can read, listen and talk with a very good Bejin accent.

To apply ESF, is only because my girl like it. For myself, I really think as a Chinese, they should be good in Chinese symbol and language.

Yes, it is Renaissance. The competition in admission is tough but it worths for a try.

Both CKY and RCHK pursue IB curriculum in the end. RCHK would be a little bit stronger in English teaching. Least of all, RC is an international school. CKY is just a billingual school.

You mentioned that your son was studying in CKY. Is he still studying there? If yes, of course, it is reasonable to let your two kids attend the same school.
