Re: HKPS 07' Parent Talk
Dear All,
I've asked a question in another page.
My question is: Any one could tell us how's a school day in HKPS? Time table? For K1, any homework, test, quiz? Or just do the reading at home?
Here is one parent's message from HKPS, very useful:
"My son is now studying K1 in the international class (Eng+Putonghua). In the 1st term, there had been homework for the Chinese part. It included an orange homework book in which simple stuffs like drawing lines from linking dots were included. The baby needed to complete 1-2 pages everyday/every other day. Another Chinese homework book was a pink and red one. It included drawing pictures, pairing-up games (e.g. dog-to-bone, cat-to-fish) and coloring. However, some tasks were difficult because it asked a baby to describe and write down some things/story to mama. This part was often done by me rather than my babe. The babe needed to complete one page of this homework everyday/every other day. The same reading scheme of Chinese and English books is keeping on. In this term (2nd term), a new Chinese homework book which teachs how to write simple Chinese characters is introduced.
Concerning assessment in K1, there was a Putonghua assessment (about once per two months). The content should be from the songs from the small orange books because I found there were chops chops there on the 1st page of the orange book given by the teacher. A notice informing you of the assessment will be sent to you before the assessment. So practice hard before the test! They may also test the babe's ability from the Chinese book in the reading scheme. Other assessments in various aspects were similar to those items printed in the school handbooks (e.g. interpersonal skill, math skills, English skill, Chinese skill, Putongua skill, plus music talent, observation talent, etc), but will be much formal. According to the school report just received, there was a specific day (parent not informed) that my babe was tested (I think they observed my child and gave him mark, when my child should not know he was being tested at that moment!) The grade ranges from "need improvement, good, very good and excellent".
To other mamas, pls give supplement or ammendment for my information because there may be some thing missing."
Very informative! And really a tough school for the kids!
