I think should focus on what is the requirement to satisfy that qualification, like, if one got ABRSM G8, we can only presume that he/she is qualify in playing that three G8 pieces, Scales..etc. But to be able to get a music degree from higher institution, you got to learn a lot more, like music analysis, harmony, music history, even piano pedagogy, composition etc, this all rounded training makes a pianist different, they are more likely to have deeper understanding about the music and bring a correct interpretation to the students. Another important point is, they are more likely to follow a good piano instructor, what they learn from the teacher pass down to their students, of course, other factors like personality counts, like being presentable, be patient, good communication skills etc...
