London Tests與劍橋試模式相似 (2005-07-12 04:35:01)

小學生又多一項英語能力測試可應考。考試及評核局首次引入「 London Tests of English for Children」（ London Tests），讓 7至 12歲學童應考，費用 400至 600元不等，其考試模式與流行的「劍橋小學英語考試」相似。
香港華人基督教聯會真道書院校長丘日謙說，應考坊間英文試須投資時間、金錢，「成本」不菲，家長宜小心考慮。他又稱，學童操練考試，或因熟習模式而考獲高分，但不等於真正改進語文。

校長﹕非英中「入場券」

沙田培英中學校長邱藹源說，雖然學校會考慮學生在這類英語試的表現，但只是額外獎勵分數，屬輔助性質，並非代表學生擁有升英中的「入場券」，學生仍需考入學試，否則對社經地位較差的學生不公平。

考評局海外及專業考試部總監羅慧基指出，引入「 London Tests」是由於接獲不少家長查詢，認為家長對這類考試有需求，故於本年 6月安排 5間小學 50名小四至小六的學生進行先導測試，預計年底正式引入該試。她說，難以區分該試與「劍橋小學英語考試」之別，但強調「 London Tests」主要評核溝通能力，鼓勵學生用英語溝通，並非測試學生的知識。

56％考獲優等 較其他地區高

英國愛德思國家學歷及職業資格考試委員會北亞及中國區學術業務總監韋洛杰表示，全球超過 1萬人應考「 London Tests」，並可銜接為 12歲以上人士而設的英語試。他稱，在先導測試中，港生考獲優等成績平均約佔 56％，其他地區約 30％，以參加第 4級評核的港生來說， 54.2％獲優等成績，其他國家只佔 24.1％。英國文化協會發言人表示， 2004/05年有 1.6萬港學生參加「劍橋小學英語考試」。

於聖若瑟英文小學就讀小六的陳洛峰在「 London Tests」的第 4級獲優等成績。在「劍橋小學英語考試」共取得 13個盾牌的他形容兩個考試相似，陳太則說不會強迫兒子考英語試，但相信這類考試對升中有幫助，她更額外安排兒子一對一與外籍人士學英語。

In my opinion, if your focus is on brushing up your son's eng ability, it would be more beneficial for him to attend general/foundation eng course to enhance his comprehension/gramma/writing skills, instead of joining those exam-oriented course.

Usually the major purpose of the exam is for school application.

Thank you for your concern and advice, esp from you who is quite an expert in educating English with your son.  To my son, it will be difficult to find suitable level basic English skill I course for him. He is not very attentive. Hence, I plan that for grammar, comprehension..., I will follow the school curriculum, and teach at home and will also concentrate on reading of English book with him, and perhaps do some grammar using computer software.

Speaking, to him, will be the easiest part of learning English. That's why I will let him join related course.

I will be very happy to listen to advice from experienced mother.

By the way, yesterday I just see the 尖瑞文's chidlren's drama. It's amazing. My son is fascinated. Surely my family will be his fans from now on, and hopefully join his drama camp in summer.

Your son will be applying primary schools? Wish your son goes into the ideal school.

Hahaa!!! I'm not an expert.... I just share what I know to mums here.  

ic... but I think speaking is just part of eng learning, actually it can be integrated well with listening, reading and writing.

I will also watch 《鍚鍚啤啤熊親子音樂劇》tonight!

May I reiterate that the name is 詹瑞文, not 尖瑞文!!  

Tks! My son has already got offer from my dream school and will go for P1 next school year.

Re: London Test of English for Children - Springboard level, I've just received the result from HKEA last week that my son got a pass.

Though the result is not really v good (he cannot get a distinction/merit this time), I'm still happy with it cos this exam is target for P3 or above student.

I can say that London Test is v diff from Cambrige Test in the sense that they are more focused on "writing". At springboard level, candidates are even required to write down questions for the answers provided.
