I haven't decided yet since the result for DBSPD's 2nd interview hasn't been announced.  Maybe I don't have to choose if my son is not on the list! :wink:

By the way, I have attended the parents meeting of LS last Saturday. It seems that the principal wants to frighten the parents away. She asked us to start well-prepare our sons by letting them read at least 20 Chinese story books & 20 English story books before the coming September!!!  She not only wants us to read aloud with our sons, but also let them get famailiar with every single word. It's horrible!!

I think LS is a good school.  Once the children can get a place in this school, they will have good academis result.  But the pressure on them as well as on the parents will be much more than in the other schools!!! That's what traditonal famous schools are!!!

If you can get a seat in DBSPD, it is a good choice than LS.  I dont mean there is no pressure in DBSPD, in fact, it is more than LS.  They may have less homeworks than LS but examin papers are very difficult and the progress is very fast.  The competition between students are high.  You will find most of students are very good in acadamic and English.  個個小朋友都係出邊補習, 你唔補,點夠競爭

That reading quantity does not give me a fright.  On average, my kid, 8 years old, reads at least 10 chapter books a week for pleasure during school days.  It takes about half hour to finish an age and stage appropriate book.  

I don't see the principal's words scary.  It's an excellent advice from most seasoned teachers for the good of langauge learing.  The pressure could be on parents who have to source books and cultivate a good reading habit at home.

I  attended the briefing session in LS last Saturday as well.  The most important message from the Principal
was "get your kid mentally and academically prepared for P1".  She really cares about the boys, she doesn't want to see boys lose confidence and
self-esteem while unable to catch up with others.

From the date we got the offer from LS, my husband and I thought it's the beginning of another story, we still have a long way to go.  We parents should work hard together with our kid.

No matter DBSPD or LS, I believe the pressure is
more or less the same (from school, parents and keen competition among peers).

I've started indoctrinating my boy with this:
WORK HARD & PLAY HARD.

It's not true. it's almost no pressure in DBSPS. Pressure in LS is much higher.

Really? It's the first time I hear that. Are you a parent of DBSPD? Your boy must be very smart so that you don't feel any pressure.  Most of the stories I know are totally different. The competition in this school is very keen and the boys and the parents are under great pressure. Of course, there is always exceptional.

DBSPD. That said, both are good schools in its own way.

My son got accepted by both schools and we chose DPSPD.

Major diff? My key decision is English vs Chinese teaching.

Pressure? Yes , both schools has its pressure in different ways like Wunma had said.

Well it's hard to compare apples and oranges but I chose DBSPD based on the limited flexibility (vs none on LS) on the rigid curriculum and got sold by Principal Chang's  speech that DPSPD has earmarked itself as a school which has elements and merits of both traditional and international schools. So far, it has steerd more to the trad. side to my likings.
