I think it was due to the wrong attitudes of the mother, not the IQ test itself.

IQ test divided into different dimensions like Logics, Spatial direction, Language etc. (As I am out of town I cant refer to correct terminology).

You can use it as reference, like the weakness of my kid, I needed to send him for Occupational Therapy to improve his hand writing.  He cant control his hand very well and write in very strong force and get tired very easily.  Of course we cant change alot of his weakness, but we can improve that and he can enjoy more in studying life.

IQ test is a tool to know more about our kid instead of score 130 and do nothing and just use the result to knock the door and hope for good school.....good univeristy....good job.........

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Then what should we do when we discover our kids are gifted child?

I have only a son and have around 4 years experience to walk with him.  Its my pleasure to share with you all about some thoughts.

Like he is very good in math, i will look around in HK and browse internet to narrow down some shortlist courses.  Finally, we took EPGY's program (In HK ran by Infokids, you can check through internet.  The program is orginated from Stanford University, USA).  Upto some point he couldn't handle the English Math as he studied in Chinese teaching primary school.  I needed him to stop one year in math and go for English enrichment.  He has good score in Cambridge English Test and now go for PET in Nov.

He likes to do and play something he has great fun and escape from others.  This is the most difficult part to encourage him to improve on his weakness and develop wider range of interests to him.  Example, he likes football only, now he is playing table tennis, gets into the school team and as captain this year.  He doesn't like SUDOKO initially, he prefer PS2, after sometime he loves it, he likes the challenges in SCMP.

Encourage him to participate in some math competition like Math Olympia or Talent Search from EPGY etc.  We don't force him to drill and got good grade and just let him have a balanced head that many bright and smart kids all over HK.  He has the motivation to do much better in Math and also apply to other areas.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
