高中文理互選 增值年年「爆燈」

【明報專訊】不少人以為名校難增值，認為入讀的學生成績好，要令他們的成績「翻幾番」，實在不容易。自2001年起，名校瑪利曼中學的增值指標只有一個「9」字，代表學生達到「最高增值」境界。該校中一、二學生毋須考試，在地理、歷史、中史和經濟與公共事務科中，每學期只修讀兩科﹔中四、五學生選修的組合有多達500個﹗校長馬潔貞說，成功沒有獨步單方，是不同措施互相配合的效果。

初中平時分佔七成

瑪利曼中學自6年前開始，大幅提高中一、二級學生的持續評估比例，學生平時分佔達七成，包括功課、專題研習和課堂表現的分數，另外三成計測驗分，測驗分散在兩個月舉行，校方又規定各科測驗內容不能多。享受過「無試」生活的中四學生陳嘉文說﹕「剛升上中一時不適應，不用考試可以減少壓力，但平時要努力。」由於中四、五學生要面對會考，該校在中三恢復考試，讓學生適應。

該校又在初中的科目設計上花心思。在初中地理、歷史、中史和經濟與公共事務4科之中，上學期先教兩科，下學期教其餘兩科，校長馬潔貞說﹕「學生學的東西和課時沒有減少，但各科在每個循環周的課節卻由2節變為4節，學生能集中注意力學習，老師亦有更充分的時間處理課節。」雖然初中學生少兼顧兩科，但連同必修的英國文學、普通話和聖經等，她們一個學期仍要讀14科。

中英數按能力分組上課

為照顧不同學生的需要，該校在初中的中英數3科，按學生能力分組教學，馬校長舉例說，校方有時會安排兩班學生一起上課，有時會按能力將學生分為3組，老師會為各組設計不同教學策略，因材施教。

會考科組合達500

樓儀琳是該校中六文科生，會考取得7A1B，但考的大部分是理科科目，只有英國文學和經濟是文科。這名高材生說﹕「中四、五讀了兩科文科，所以現在沒有不習慣。」文理互選是不少中學的政策，該校中四、五自由選修的組合多達500個，中六、七亦有160個，學生修讀喜歡的科目，自然加倍努力。

必修英國文學 半校參加校際朗誦

英文科是瑪利曼中學今年最佳增值學科，馬校長說，初中學生必修英國文學，對提高英語水平很有幫助。該校除經常舉辦英語活動外，更鼓勵學生參加比賽，「全校有900人，當中500人參加了校際朗誦節，去年有350人參加英文朗誦，有100人得獎。」

觀塘的福建中學和福建中學(小西灣)今年增值級數亦報捷，最佳6科、中英數3科和英文科的增值連續數年達第9級。數學是福建中學(小西灣)最佳的增值科目，科主任陳志遠歸功於中四、五學生按能力分班，校方又

請問瑪利曼中學相比其他同區名女校,例如BPS, St. Paul's Convent, St. Paul Catholic, St. Francis Canossian,etc. 讀書壓力是否較少?


I think stay at home 讀書壓力較少.

孩子需要鼓勵, 適當的稱讚和鼓勵,
會使他更努力去完成任務, 對自己更有自信.
在小朋友的學習過程中，父母的啟發與鼓勵是十分重要。

我係mss的畢業生
想當年我入去讀個時﹐每年都只係考一次試0甘大把
測驗好似係一個學期一次﹐期間只有幾次好短的quiz
功課少﹐要靠自己讀書﹐真係無咩壓力
但唔知點解個個成績都唔錯的

英文科小班教學(約16人一班)
中文科就得A班會分開(佢地英文科係全班一齊上的)
事關A班有一半學生讀英文法文﹐唔修中文


初入去讀同返d小學同學傾計
真係個個都覺得我係天堂啊﹗

I know a girl from Marymount and one from 張祝珊. Their difference is Heaven and Hell.

Forgive me if I incidentally offend those whose child studing in 張祝珊.  張祝珊 is good but Marymount is far better from every aspect.

Even if your girl is introvert and passive, I do think the culture, atmosphere and the environment of Marymount will bring her a change.  

This applys only to those with a choice, between these two top tier secondary schools.

I have colleagues and current my boss from St Paul Convent. My feeling is that they are smart. But these people are from the old days. Don't know current situation. However, my friend's daughter was able to transfer from St Paul Convent to HK International School. Thus I believe their standard is very high. (at least English).

BTW, there is one girl from BPS (within my son's sport team). My feeling is that she is fully aware of her school limitations, such as diversity of teaching quality and she tries hard to overcome. Therefore, I do agree with someone's comment (somewhere in BK) that BPS is putting efforts to improve, albeit the standard shows slight sign of decline (no choice of students from allocation). Students do not seem to subject to much pressure. At least the one I know (at form 3) can still spend 3 days a week for practicing sports and 1 day for musical instrument.

你好? 看到你以上的資料, 很想知道什麼是增值級數. 由於小女今年要報中學, 所以希望了解多些中學的問題. 而且對福建中學很感興趣, 所以希望可以了解更多. 小女屬 band one 中的學生, 所以希望找一間較好的學校, 我家住將軍澳, 那裡英中不多, 所以要找他區英中. 煩請告知福建中學的資料.

If your daughter is in Band One, can choose school much better than 福建. People told me that there is only one Band one Eng school in 將軍澳. Then why not consider outside 將軍澳. 如聖潔寧(Kwun Tong) or 聖保祿(Lam Tin).

As for that Eng Band one school in 將軍澳 (this year they have one 5A (or 4A, I am not sure) student on A-level), friend of mine is a teacher there. He told me that the relationship between teachers and students are poor. School are far too strict and don't bother about students and parents feeling (probably they think they are the only Band One school in the district).

One example he quoted is that the teacher will caught student on the color code deviation on the pullover. The way headmaster deal with the complaint letters from parents is to ask teachers to turn to god (pray) for solutions. My friend might exaggerate a bit. But it sounds to me that the school is really absurd.

Thanks for your comments ! Actually, I am considering outside English school for my daughter, may be East district Hong Kong. My best choice is 張祝珊, but I know that it is difficult to get in, as it is a top school in there. Anyway, I may be try. I heard that this school has no interview this year, not sure if it is true or not. I think I need to make a perform profile and get well preparation at once.

For the English band one school in Tseung Kwan O, I know it is just a English school, otherwise, nothing special. But, as I don't want to try girl school, therefore, I feel difficult to choose. Any other comment ?
