Re: 亞氏保加症Asperger Syndrome or Nonverbal learning disorder parent's guide

my husband ordered a 2nd hand book from amazon for about hk$100 with post included.

are there any children recieved NLD as a diagnosis in hong kong?  any parents care to share their experiences with us? or any professionals to enlighten us?

one source of information says some professionals group NLD under asperger's or PDD-Nos while others view it as an entirely distinct disability.

another label which shares a lot of characteristics of NLD is semantic pragmatic disorder. Dr T said SPD is more used among the language professionals. our speech therapist said this label is a bit out of date. i came across the following website sharing a comprehensive article on SPD by margo sharp, a speech therapist (written in 1992). it covers some useful tips on helping affected children.

http://www.hyperlexia.org/sp1.html

a mum also shares her experiences on

http://geocities.com/denisev2/spd_whattodo.html

some professionals' think which label is not that important.  what matters more is to pinpoint the deficit and work on it.  but i feel a more specific label as compared to a broad PDD-Nos is meaningful as it would help facilitate resources and efficacy of interventions.  two individuals under the same PDD-Nos could differ greatly in their learning and social abilities.
