Nice to meet you again. I am interested in Jolly phonics materials. I had bought a sets of finger phonics X 7 and vcd for my girls last month. I bought it from wise kids. I had checked from the
shopkeeper that they offered 90 or 95% off for
some visa card. You can check with them. Recently,
I found that Nurses' Assiciation is promoting the jolly phonics song. It costs about ninety something which is much cheaper than the wise kid. However , it is for
member only. I am going to buy one for my girl today because it will be out of stock very fast. I would contact you later if I could find some update
price list.

What is jolly phonics songs like?? Is it about
phonetics?? LIke 'A' for Apple, 'B' for Boy ???
I have been looking for some materials (better be interesting video with songs) and so far I still can't find something interesting or lovely (at least I don't think so). How much is yours and any demo???

Thanks for the info.  90 or 95% off?  Do you mean 九折 or 九五折?  What do you think about the materials.  My kid will join a summer course on Jolly Phonics and I am planning to buy some materials to practice with him.

Re Nurses' Association, I'll check and ask my friend to do me a favour if there's any.  BTW, have you got the Jolly Readers and worksheets?  It's quite hard to chat with you as you don't come to BK very often.

Hi, CHT mami and those mami who are interested in jolly phonics.
I just bought the jolly phonics song from Nurses Association from Jordan.However , the promotion is not for all the Jolly phonics materials.The only material for promotion is vcd songs only. I had checked the price from WK that it cost one hundred twenty something. The price offered by NA is only 85
and with song book. What a big discount.
Everynight I will go to BK but I seldom leave any message , so that you are unable to find me. Ha Ha....CHTmami. Please do let me know if you want to buy one. But .....provided that they still have stock.The promotion will last to the end of June. Since you live in HH and I can send it to you easily.
I found that Jolly phonics is more suitable than
Letterland for our young kids.My girl loves the jolly songs very much.It is better to start with songs rather than teaching them directly. DVD is also available from Jolly phonics .A female teacher will demonstrate the pronounciation of each letters .I had joined Letterland parental class before and learned the concept.Therefore, I will try to teach my girl later.

i bought the jolly phonics materials from jolly faith learning centre, which is the only training centre approved by jolly phonics.
They offer special price and u can find ALL the materials there

There is a bookstore in Jordan Austin Road. The bookstore call A&

Campus Bookshop. They have more materials of Jolly Phonics.

You said JP is more suitable for young kids rather than LL. Why you attended the LL class and plan to teach your girl? Do you mean NA offers JP songs in vcd + song book at $85? It's a very attractive price ar! Yeah, I also plan to buy the JP DVD.

My boy will start the JP foundation course this summer, so, do you think I should play the songs to him before the course?

Hui Tung,
The reason why I attended the LL parental course because I couldn't find Jolly phonics class by that time.I had learned the concept of blending and phonics , so that I could make use of that to teach my girl. The tutor didn't 'hard sell' the LL materials and she even said that we could use other brands of materials. The course would give you a more clear picture of what phonics are and you might even find that the application of phonics was not 100% sure. I will introduce phonics to my girl for future use , eg. unseen dictation or promoting self-reading.
When she grow up (at primary), I may send her to learn phonetic.
The promotion for Jolly phonics in NA is $85 for JP songs(cd) and songs book. One song for one letter.
The songs are short but child can catch the pronouciation easily.You can introduce the songs to your boy beforehand and he may learn better in the foundation course. Hope this can help you.

Wow, you know a lot about phonics! May I ask you a question? So you know JP and LL adopts different system, right? My boy's school will use Longman Phonics for K2. The system used is similar to Letterland (I can't remember the system's name). JP is a synthetic phonics. Do you think a child can use what s/he learns from one system then apply to another system? Would s/he get confused? Thanks!

BTW, how long does each JP song last? I may play it before sleep.

I just know very little about both LL and JP. For my opinion , it is better to use one system each time as our child may cofuse easily. As my know, LL adopt
picture code. Each letter will have their own character,eg. Annie apple , Oscar orange , Eddie elephant etc. For JP, the prounciation of each letter is represented by an action, eg.A (pretend that some ants are crawling upto your arms and say a..a..a..) The prounciation of some letters will be a little bit difference between the two systems.
Each song of JP will only last < 1 mins and easy to learn.

I have once shown my boy a LL magazine and read with him but he had no response :evil: He seems not interested in the characters .. :evil:

Fortunately he knows the sounds of most of the letters. He can pronounce a word with a little guidance such as "S" & "it" is "Sit" ; "

" & "it" is "

it" ... etc. after watching a phonics vcd (I seldom teach him the sounds, he learns it chiefly from the vcd.) So I hope JP can foster what he has learnt and help him in blending.

Hope that he won't get confused one after one.

Hv you tried IPA ah? You would get a new perspective on letting kids learn phonics ga. Like other moms, I have decided not to invest too much on phonics from on la. Rather, if my kid is ready, let him learn IPA i.s. int'l phonetic association. believe you must have read about the discussion already. :wink:
