Tai lo, i am beginner ja, how can i have anything good! Better ask the almighty knowledgeable warrrren

But let's share some, in the orange, and some other website, they said the index finger should be kept away from the neck. while i can do it, not very well, but can produce some la.

But my teacher said it makes me shake the vio seriously. and he prefers the index finger slightly touch the neck in order to clap the vio with the thumb, any idea to that?

Do you mean that wrist motion is not a good approach? When i passed the music shop, i noticed that many teachers are using finger motion instead, is that more popular of HK's teacher learned and teach finger motion?

Or should it depend on wherever the fingers are?

one of my friend' teacher remind me to read the web again for some other technique, but I just forget the link.

I am using this method too to make my vibrato. My teacher said if you fixed your finger on the board firmly, you won't get a bad pitch. He did nicely in my lesson for demo. For yan yan said, "手碗用力手會緊", I don't really agree. It in fact not using energy from the wrist, but it just like you are doing the 上把 & 落把 at one point, this won't get you 緊.

if you have time, study "with" some real professional violin player, watch their DVD, and see how they do the vibrato.

Thanks to both Yan Yan & Kaka,

I won't take any method as definite rule, different people may suit particular method more. So if we know more, we could have better chance to find our best way. That's why we share here.

My opinion: it is difficult in wrist vibrato, especially in 1st position and first finger, while arm movement may shake the vio seriously, that maybe the reason i always see teachers using finger motion in music shop.

And it may be impossible for wrist or finger movement in high position, so arm movement is the only way out, (my guess only)

DVDs: the great performers seldom play easy piece for us. For instant, lee chuen wan (of course he is no comparision to Heifetz), when i watch, only thing is to open the mouth, what he is doing!!!! Could I ever have a chance to handle these techniques????

Share : in SSP golden centre, some shops on ground level sell cheap DVDs (not pirate version, i guess). worth to buy, Heifetz, Kogan are all sold in $100/4 discs.

I do see some very good violin player use the wrist vibrato, and indeed, Heifetz do play some easier pieces in some of his DVD. Anyway, Technique don't refer to the music itself.
