I went to Tom Lee and the salesman introduced me a hard wood top guitar(Yamaha) for its advantage is to keep the strings in place and less tuning needed. It costs HK$1,400. Is it worth buying?

The kid is already 12 years old. He/she shall have their comment on what to buy for them. Why not let he/she do a study to compare different guitars and give out their recommendations.

The one you mentioned is not a bad choice for its trade name and price range.

It is very important to try the guitar because it shall suit the size of hand for the player. Since Asian normally have a smaller hand, those European/American brand may not be suitable for your kid.

Hope you can get a good guitar and play it with joy and fun.

Thanks for your reply.

I guess you are also a guitar player. Would you mind to share more on this? At which level or stage he/she can take the exam?

At the moment, the song being practised is Etude No.26 'Swanee River". Is this still at an easy level?

You are welcome. It is my pleasure to share my experience with you ( also other BK members ).

I am sorry to tell you that you get a wrong guess. I play alto saxophone but not guitar. I get some knowledge about guitar because of my job.
