Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

catnips,

Thanks for your sharing.  May I ask a few questions?

Have you consider other International Primary school?

How do you compare KCIS with those like ESF, Delia School of Canada, CIS or SIS?

Will you consider to let your daughter study in KCIS secondary school too?

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Kimum,

You're welcome.

After studied in KCIS for his pre-nursery class, my son has studied in ESF kindergarten for one year since we have to move to N.T by that time.  But I found that the mandarin part is relatively weak by then as their Mandarin teacher arrived after the school has started for one to two months.  Comparing to ESF, KCIS has very stable teacher pool, especialy in Chinese / Mandarin, and they are teaching Traditional Chinese Character, which I think it's much better for the kids.

My son always said that he's missing KCIS and would like to study in KCIS instead of ESF, we decided to move back to HK Island and enrolled him to KCIS again for K. 3 in local section.  Even though ESF offered us a place in Bradburry Primary School, we rejected.

I think KCIS is good, and makes its balance in Chinese and English.  It may not be a typical internatiional school, but it may better suits the needs of local parents, i.e. to let their children master Chinese and English at the same time.  I don't know much about the Delia, CIS or SIS, I think all of them have their merits, it really depends on your own choice.

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

catnips,

Thanks for your detailed information.

Can you elaborate more on why you said "It may not be a typical internatiional school..."?

Besides a comparatively strong Mandarin/Chinese level among other international schools, what do you think about other subjects like Math, Science, etc.?  Can you describe a bit more on their general teaching approach?

BTW, have you started planning your son's secondary study?  As KCIS is only up to Form 4, will you plan to switch him to other International School?

Also, is the campus of KCIS in P3 a different one?  How is it compare to the one at North Point?

Sorry for asking so many questions as I hope I can find a good school for my child.

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Dear Kimum,

I know that not every one, incl. the government, regards KCIS as an international school.  That's why they call themselves as the international section of the local primary school.  Yet the school is run as what the other international schools does and made a good balance between English and Mandarin.  Perhaps I should say it should  rather be regarded as a prioneer to those direct-aided school.

As the local section is strong in Maths, I think KCIS is quite good in Maths comparing to some of the international schools.  For science and culture, they will do projects.  My son has done sth like dinosaurs, ancient egypt, etc ( can't remember all, sorry   )

My son is in P6 now, I think there will be F.5 or F.6 started by the time he finishes his F.3, so I am not worrying about this.

The campus in Bramer Hill is much bigger than the North Point one and is commanding a panoramic seaview.  Very good enviroment I should say.  Heard that they are now planning to expand the playground with more greenery for the children, good news!

Sorry that my reply is not very organised as I need to call it a night now. ZZzzzzZZZZ

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Dear catnips,

Thank you again!!!  Seen from another forum that your son has acquired a very strong reading skilling and learning ability.  Congratulation!!!

May I know the mother-tongue or primary language of your boy and girl?  What is the preferred language he/she speaks with classmates and at home?

Also, are students in KCIS mostly local ones? or a mix of other nationalities/cultures and what are their proportion?

I heard from another parent saying that the school bus of KCIS does not provide seat belt.  Is this really the case as I think the school should really address this issue.  What's your opinion?

Kimum

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Dear Kimum,

My kids' mother tongue is Cantonese.  Therefore they speak Cantonese with us and English with the our maid at home.  They are asked to speak English in school except the Chinese lessons.

Some of their classmates are foreigh students from Australia, Japan, England, US or Philipines, some are mix.  But a larger proportion of students is local Chinese as more and more students are transfered from other local schools.

And yes, as far as I know, there are no seatbelts on school bus.  Therefore some parents may choose private school bus for their kinder kids.  I'd prefer the school bus from school as it will board and pick up the students in school in covered playground ( in North Point campus for lower forms).  And the school will arrange school bus whenever the students attend their extracurricular activities offered by school.

Hope these information will help you.

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Hi catnips,

Did your son join any ECA class?  and what is the time for having the ECA? any cost for internal club?

My daughter loves playing tennis but not sure if they are conducting at school?

Re: 朗思國際 vs 蘇浙國際

Dear Polar,

Sorry for replying late.

Yes, they do provide ECA after school.  Except those outsourced activities, all the activities held by their school teachers are free of charge.  Most of the activities are on Monday or Wednesday.

As far as I know, they are not offering Tennis for the time being.
