I agree with you all in the Kumon Maths which is quire repetitive work and emphasis on time needed.
But for Kumon English, it seems my daugther listen and speak quite correct ancent and vocab, though she forgets some simple words sometimes.
And regarding Kumon Chinese, she seems still
like listening and reading Chinese, too.

My girl is 5 years old and started around 11 months.

Kumon system has got its merits or it couldnt possibly have so many centres all around the world.
1 Kumon maths-teaches arithmetic part of maths which emphasizes in repetitive drills, accuracy and speed. Although we should not be training kids to be 'calculators' knowing how to add, subtract,divide,multiply,applying formulas are part of mathematics. If the child cant even do these tasks, it would be even more difficult to solve word problems.Actually, these exercises should be finished in 10-15mins. If your child is taking too long then he might be doing too many pages(you can choose to do 5-20pages) .Actually, you can apply Kumon ' philosophy' to any subject if you can find the right set of text to drill your kids.. Basically daily repetition of words(English, Chinese), arithmetic, from easy to difficult.Can be adapted to be used with Oxford reading tree etc.I do find Kumon method useful.

似乎有些父母可以有效地提高孩子對數學的興趣，解難和分析能力，以減少公文數的負面影響，而又可保留公文數的好處。

Extracts from 九歲童世數試奪雙優

(星島日報報道)「世界數學測試」昨舉行頒獎典禮，表揚今年成績優異的港生。在解難分析科中，本港八至十一歲學生組別取得八成九及格率，較去年同期上升三十個百分點，今次年紀最小的雙優狀元是只有九歲的黃柏軒，他的成功秘訣是父母從生活中訓練他計數的頭腦。

今次測試中，最年幼的雙優狀元是只有九歲的黃柏軒，現時就讀基督教臻美黃乾亨小學四年級。柏軒說﹕「上茶樓時爸媽都會叫我計價錢，回家後亦要我做公文數及數學幻方。」

在同一組別獲雙優、就讀拔萃女小學小六的張瑗恩，已經操練中一年級的公文數，平時父母都會要她在超級市場購物時計算所需價錢、訓練她的解難能力。

I totally agreed Y2KChild's opinion. My kid studied the maths class at the beginning of K3 (Now she is at P.1). At the first few lessons, she is OK with the lesson. After 6 lessons, she told me the course was very boring because she was still writing 1-100. She even refused to do the exercise as she find it was a repeatative and boring task. My kid ask me why she need to do something which she already know. Finally, I withdraw the class and I believe my decision is correct as creativity and learning interest is far more important than everything.
