I guess it's best to do a brief profile and give it to the principal if you want him/her to write you the recommendation letter. This way, the letter will be very precise, which gives others a feeling that the principal really knows your child.
However, before doing that, you need to ask your principal politely whether he/she wants the profile or not. To prevent giving him/her the feeling that you're forcing him/her to write down the points that YOU want, it's better to list your child's accomplishment in point forms.
