ESF TY K2 from a few years ago:
I was pleased with TY Kindergarten - my child was happy and enjoyed going to school. Sure, the facilities are not fantastic compared to other kindergartens (limited outdoor play area and the building is so-so) and there are no "ah-sums" in the toilets to help children, but the indoor classroom play areas and toys are very good and the children love it. It is a relatively small school, the teacher and Vice Principal will know your child quite well and also recognise you if you do pick up.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that ESF Kindergartens focus on learning with play and learning soft skills. They are not taught maths or reading or writing. Some local parents supplement this by attending a local kindergarten as well but it's not a must. Some parents do not like that there are 25 kids in a class but I felt it was acceptable (each class has one teacher and one assistant).
There was a weekly newsletter from the class teacher and mandarin teacher, outlining what the class did for the week and there are some photos. The teachers will also upload photos of your child onto the ESF app from time to time (not every week). There were reports in October, December, April and June. I found them ok for keeping track of how your child is doing at school. It was not a brief copy and paste or ticking boxes.
Child has adjusted well in ESF primary school and picked up reading and writing very quickly. Whether it suits your family depends on your expectations and whether you really want to get into a ESF primary school.
