Re: 教統局:中中會考成績升
“uncleedward:
I totally agree with you that parents need to help their children out and not to rely on the children's schools (or even their tutors alone). However, I find it unfortunate that not every parent has the time/knowledge/money to help his/her children....When that's the case, the children's school is their only hope. I guess you teach your daughter very well. It's nice to see you offering advices to parents. I know that I'm not the best teacher in the world, yet I really feel that many parents in HK dont' know the good methods to teach their children even when they are willing to help out. If you have any teaching method that works, please do share it with us. I look forward to reading more of your comments! ”
Dear Vernique
I feel flattered by your nice remarks. Actually, I have been following your posts in this website with interest. And certainly I have learned a lot about how to learn/teach English from you.
You said, ‘…not every parent has the time/knowledge/money to help his/her children....” That is certainly true. These are the sad things we all have to bear with in life after all. However, these are probably not the cases with most BK parents here.
Actually I adopt a laissez-faire approach as a parent towards my daughters' school studies. My job is more to provide an environment conducive to learning. Particularly at Primary School level, as long as they knew what they were doing, I was not too concerned about the marks they got. My elder daughter told me that once at P2, one of her classmates asked if my daughter would be scolded by me or my wife for the low marks my daughter got in the dictations. My daughter’s response was “Why do they have to do so? What makes them do that?” This reflected the attitude we have towards their studies at school. My daughters even complained that I have been more concerned with other children's studies than theirs after I became a private tutor accidentally.
The only thing I was insistent was to cultivate their reading habit. I agreed with your remarks in another post that to ensure the children have a good result at HKCE, the best thing to do is to ensure the children s English is beyond the HKCE level. I don’t believe in something called “失手”. One may need luck to have 10 A's but one does not need luck to have good results in HKCE exams.
Vernique, it is me, together with other parents, who looks forward to seeing more of your posts in this forum.
