My child completed the full JMC course over three years and covered books 1 to 4. This course greatly enhanced my child's interest in music, trained her hearing of pitch and learned how to add chords to accompany the melody.
My child can now freely create her own little songs (but she hasn't the patience and time to write it on scores). My child can distinguish the key of a simple song with relative ease and can manage key transpositions.
I give Tom Lee JMC all the credit for her ability in hearing and pitch recognition. It clearly worked for my daughter.
However, I need to warn all prospective parents that despite it being a fun, interactive and stimulating course for music lovers, parents should not expect their children to be become good pianist or violinist just by joining this course. This course plants seeds of musical sense into children's mind but won't train them well in terms of playing an instruments, when compared with traditional piano lessons.
For those who wish to complete all Tom Lee music classes, it is also worthwhile to note there are courses after JMC, namely JXC/JSAC and then more to follow. It is an expensive and time consuming road to travel. The course is for those who really wish to develop and nurture musical talents. If your aim is only to have your child learn to play an instrument well to fulfil school requirements, you have many options in the market.
Last but not least, most students move on to JXC ( 4 year long) after JMC, while some selected few (more talented ones) qualify for the advanced JSAC (3 year long) course. The JSAC course is only offered at remote locations and at late hours. Students living on the HK side are forced to go to Sha Tin to take the 7 pm class on weekday. That is extremely unacceptable and the Company just blamed it on the lack of available rooms in more convenient locations such as TST. And if you refuse to go there you will have to wait until the next offering for JSAC course which is not guaranteed to happen at all.
As a music school with so many campuses, this is utterly unacceptable and it showed that they care not at all about the students, but only maximizing profits. Student's who have completed JMC with the hope to continue will be completely at the mercy of TOM LEE.
In conclusion, I like the course but hate the way TOM LEE runs its business.
