香港真光中學（小學部）

Is anyone's kid studying in 香港真光中學（小學部）? Does the school has a lot of homework, test and examination? What is the style of the teachers and in the classroom?

My daughter is an active girl without much concentration and sometimes a problem maker in the class, is this school suitable for her? Finally, what is the standard of the subjects - English, Chinese and maths of this school?

My elder daughter has been studying in True Light since kindergarten. She is now a P4 student. She is happy with her school life. This school has not much homework. The teachers would compromise among themselves not to give students too much homework in one day. My daughter can always finish all her homework before dinner everyday which takes about 2 hours at most. When she was in P1, the school expects the students to finish their homework within 45 minutes and it is true.

This school has 3 tests and 3 examinations each year. The majority of the teachers are young and friendly. I know some of them are devoted Christians and they will take good care of the students. Therefore, my daughter loves her teachers very much.

For the standard of the subjects, at first I think they are too simple, especially in lower grades. However, I met a friend who had a relative studying in True Light a few years ago. She told me that her relative had changed to another school as he was unable to cope with the difficult syllabus of True Light. This tells me that the standard of a school is a subjective feeling. One is too simple for me, may be too difficult for another. Anyway, you only have to know that over 70% of the graduates can go to HK True Light Secondary School which is a Band One English secondary school!

3 tests and 3 exams a year is it too much? That means every 1-1/2 to 2 months you have to prepare for the test/exam. How many days does the test/examination take? Does the school test/exam period by period (ie no need to test/exam the lesson which has been tested/examined before) or on accumulative basis (ie you have to study more and more for the test/exam later in the year)? Does it take a long time to study for the test/exam?

3 tests and 3 exams in one year can be counted as much in HK.  Most of my friends' primary school kids have only 2 tests and 2 exams.  The syllabus of the 3 exams do not overlap.  But, the tests will overlap most of the syllabus of the exams, e.g. the test before the exam covers 6 chapters while the exam covers 8 chapters of the text book whick include the 6 chapters of the test.

How long will it take to study the exams varies from students to students.  For me, I won't and in fact can't take too much time to help my daughter to prepare for the test or exam as I'm a working mother.  I'll always only take the weekend before the test/exam to do the revision.

True Light is a Chinese local primary school.  Therefore, except English lesson, all other textbooks are Chinese.  But, do you know many of the famous local schools are like this?  For example, St. Paul Co-ed, St. Paul Catholic Primary School at Happy Valley, etc.  Anyway, I think the English standard of True Light is OK.  Students are encouraged to read English books and to write English on regular basis.  And their secondary school is an English school.  Last year, they have a 8-A students who have been studying in True Light since kindergarten through secondary.

My son will be a P.1 student in TL(HK) in September, by reading the message from you here, I felt that I have make a good choice. TL(HK) has given lower grade kids more time to adapt to school life in the beginning and increase the academic level step-by-step. My son is now studying in Victoria International Kiddy. I hope the standard here can meet the P.1 standard of TL P.1. He (K3) has chinese dictation every other week and English sentense dictation every other week. The Victoria kiddy raise its standard now to cope with other local kiddy.

The Chinese dictation would be 2 paragraphs over 20 chinese words like; "夏天到, ...到沙灘游泳和玩沙。" English has 5 sentenses like; "I do my homework","I play with my friend","The train is white, the tram is green"... Can this cope with the P1. in TL.

Dear all,

I would like to apply TL for my son, who will study in P1 next year.

Please advice if it is difficult to apply TL as my son is now studying in Cannon Kindergarten at K2. His school also has the dictation in English and Chinese once a week separately.

Also, please advice how much for the school fee for TL. Do they have interview, I mean writing test for the interview? Do you know when could I obtain the application form?

Don't worry about it. The interview is simple. The teacher ask the kid:

1)執書包
2)Matching
3)"If someone call at home and you pick up the phone what would you answer?" My son answered "Can you can back later, my mother is in the bathroom."

It is HK$24,000 one year, that is $2,400/month. Books around HK$1,6xx.
