We sent in late application for K1 and was informed for an interview yesterday.
And we eventually got an offer.

School starts next week and of course we have also got an offer in a local kindergarten.

It's really a very sudden happening.

Would like to know how big or slim the chance is for my kid to go to shatin junior? we have nothing like debenture or siblings.

If the chance is really slim, is it better we stay in a more competitive local kindergarten?

Chances will be higher if you attend WKS. At least all WKS students got a chance for interview. All the best.

would suggest to attend wks if your target is esf primary... chances to get accepted is much higher from wks than other kindy.

Do u mind going to RC? Shatin junior can't take all students from wks and ty students ( some Ty students are in sj catchment area )

No one call promise anything.
You still need to go for interview when applying to Y1.
And there are people that fail the interview.
Like someone said, apply to RC too.
Heard that there are students that fail both interviews.
So apply to at least 2 or more other schools.

Like how many WKS kids will eventually get the chance for an interview for Shatin junior or eventually get admitted?

I heard that RC's arrangement is to interview all applicants.
And SJ seems to not interview everyone.
Not sure about other ESF primary.
Not sure whether there is a firm policy or it is totally the school's decision.
I suggest parents call the schools up and enquire into whether the schools interview all applicants.

Sorry I do not have figures.
And does that figure mean anything?
Note that the most crucial part is still the interview.
And most of the time, there is nothing you can do  about it as they are only 4 or 5 year old kids when they went for interview.
Do not be too obsessed with numbers.
My kids are much older one is already in university and the other one applying to university.
We do not care about the % of university placements etc.
Note that each kid is different.
Even if I tell you 95% of WKS kids eventually get into a ESF primary, it does not mean anything.
Your kid may be in the 95% or you kid may be that 5%.
And the chance is NOT RANDOM.
So my suggestion: apply to at least 4-5 international primary school. And even think of what you would do if you get no offers from all those schools.

Thanks so much for all your info and advice.
I eventually called the staff and know a bit more about their arrangement of interviews.

You guys are right that the most important now is to think of what to do if there is no offer.

Really a tough decision to make.

Would you mind sharing more about what you learned from the staff? Although some parents say the ratio isn't important, I am also interested in the rough ratio of students getting into esf primary from wks kg. Thanks!

都係嗰句, 如果target ESF primary, 點都係take ESF kindies. Other local kindies children receive an interview invitation is extremely slim unless they are non- Chinese.

My daughter went to TY ESF, my planned was to return to local kindie (those kindie with English medium and less popular, and less pushy on academic) if she could not get an offer in KJS. Luckily she got an offer. I planned that way because I already planned to train up the Chinese level myself when I take ESF offer. And most school should only start writing in K3. K1-K2 should be more a play based learning with basic alphabets and numbers which I can teach at home.
