回覆:ESF Year 1
Spelling tests start at Y2, 8 - 10 words, once a week. The words are from their Unit of Inquiry. This means they encounter these words during the 4 - 6 weeks of the UOI, and these words stick in their minds. It is really quite effortless for the kids to learn these words.
By the second term of Y2, they will go into more structural writing starting with procedures or instructions writing (e.g., a cooking recipe). By Y4, the writing starting to get quite heavy & serious. For a UOI reflection, they can write (note: I use "can" here, not "have to") 4 - 6 A4 pages.
I personally observed ESF has a very effective way to teach kids how to read & write. Really, don't worry about it. However, it is critical that you spend the time to read with your kid every night, and check they understand the content (that ESF schools also provide reading workshops to parents. Make sure you go to those too.)
