Students entering the universities via the old system (F7) will immediately be "second year" students in the new 4-year university system. Those entering via the new system will be first year. It should not affect their chance of getting into universities.
Why the F.7 batch become second year U students? It does not seem possible. I remember that it was told that they will enter U same as those under old system, so they will just be year 1 U student. But they may graduate in 3 years instead of 4 years. The U will just provide more space in that year to accept students from both the old and new system.[/quote]
It doesnt matter how we call the students, whether they are year 1, 2, 3 or 4 or freshmen, sophomore... the key is whether the overlapping years have enough university spaces for students graduating with the old system and the new one. My understanding is that the chances of getting in should be roughly the same. The universities will admit twice the number of students that year. And they wont be put into the same "year" as some have already received 7 years of secondary education but some have only 6.
This is my understanding on how they are going to implement the system. Of course, this government seems unable to communicate themselves clearly (probably they dont even know how to work it out themselves). |
