Having the privilege of being admitted to Oxbridge doesn't mean smooth sailing in U life.  The question 压力会不会很大? needs to be seriously considered before application.

The following articles reveal how mental health problems are on the rise at Oxbridge, which are also common in other top universities:

http://www.theguardian.com/education/2014/oct/06/cambridge-university-student-depression-eating-disorders

http://www.cosmopolitan.co.uk/worklife/campus/news/a35286/the-pair-died-within-three-months-of-each-other/

Perfectionist mentality among the brightest students, the intense workload and hence stress are some contributing factors.

Last year, two year 2 law students of an Oxford college ranked top 10 on the Norrington Table were rusticated for one year.  Some top-ranked colleges tend to push their students particularly hard for high achievements.

There is no need to push oneself too hard to get into top universities.  Just maintain 平常心 in U applications and interviews.  There are always alternative, and maybe better, ways to achieve one's goals.

Regarding 有关不同学院之间如何选择 ...

First and foremost … make your choice between Oxford and Cambridge!

. If scholarship is essential for financing the study, pick those colleges covered by the target scholarships, e.g. Prince Philip Scholarship and Jardine Foundation, etc.

. After choosing the subject of study, check against those colleges whether the chosen course is offered and supported

. Some colleges are specific for certain age groups or gender

. Check the target college for any special rules and facilities for, say, students who are underage (<18) or have a disability

. Not all colleges offer accommodation for all years of undergraduate study

. Size of student population, in particular, with respect to the chosen subject in the College

. Location of the College viz-a-viz town centre and departmental buildings

. General and specific facilities provided

. Appearance?

.‘Old’ or ‘new’?

. Do not make an Open Application unless you are happy to be placed in any old college ... For example, windows in old ones are commonly still single glazed while new ones are usually double glazed. You don’t have to be told the difference in winter …

For chances of getting in, applicants are officially advised that they are not advantaged or disadvantaged by their choice of college. However, whether a college has a larger number of places offered for the chosen course may affect how interviews are arranged. For example, an average-sized college offers 5 places for first-year law students while a large college may offer up to 10. It happened before that a large college interviewed selected applicants of other colleges but applicants of this college were not chosen for further interviews at other colleges after two rounds of interviews at this college. Of course, it does not mean that this college’s applicants are disadvantaged in terms of chances of admission. It shows that there are differences in arrangements after all.

如果你们有兴趣,这儿也有不少英文的博客,包括面试的经验等:http://www.gurume.co.uk/en/blogs/23

”Interviews in Oxford (not Skype)

Interviews in Oxford last for 2 or 3 days during which accommodation and dining are provided by the college for free. Interview dates are near Christmas meaning flights are difficult to book. Therefore a lot of international students choose to Skype interview. However, I recommend applicants to take interviews in Oxford to get to know the university better..。“
