You are correct. My sister-in-law who's an optimistic informed me: kids do not need to wear sunglasses until age 10. Before that, plenty of sun exposure is beneficial for the eyes.
I think parents need to balance the life of kids who have already spent certain time in electronic devices at school.
My arrangement is laptop for homework only (entertainment as little as possible). The laptop is off on most days of long holidays. No smartphones (my kid is year 7). Ipad only for overseas travel.
Kids need to hv outdoor exercises to stay healthy and face-to-face socialisation with other people . They also need to read (but not ebooks on tablets).
I hv a kindle but my kid like real books instead.
Most important, encourage the kids to draw & write, which can stimulates their thinking & creativity.
