Just share a piece of information for considering whether choose Yew Chung or not. Yew Chung as a so called international school and charges HK top international school fee, unexpectedly use Cantonese as the interview language for the 4 year old programme we attended recently. the English level of the management who undertook the interview is below average. Despite the programme details, we absolutely will not take the offer as they seems not in the same level of international schools and what they charges is not proportional to what they deliver. Comparatively Victoria is a better choice even it is a private school.

Yew Chung sells mother tongue (Cantonese) as the primary teaching language at the young age. If you don't buy this the school is not suitable for you.

When we had our interview, both the eastern and western coordinators were there. the staff asked us which one we would like to talk with. If 樓主 had done some research on the EK forum or had been to the school's introductory talk, should know that Cantonese is widely used in YC campus and this has been criticized by many parents here. It is not new to this forum at all.

Although my son was raised with English as his core language, i must speak on behalf of parents who decide to use their Cantonese Mother tongue as the child first language: that it is highly advisable and great for the child's language learning in the long run. Both CIS & YCIS adopts to this philosophy, along with some other Int'l Schools (ie. FIS? i think). Studies have shown that kids with one strong core language excel better in terms of language learning, and is able to pick up a second or more languages much faster. That is why YCIS, who's prime target parents are local Hong Kong Chinese (at least it used to be), would condone the use of Canto until a certain age.

For families who cannot speak English well enough to carry deep conversations with their children, it is better to stick with Chinese then to use broken English in communicating with their children. It will do the child a world of good to stick with Chinese to begin with. (Please note i am not against bi or trilingualism here, just that a child should have one core language which is strong and solid; he can learn 5 other languages, that is fine as long as he can think clearly in a solid one)

From what i know, many YCIS primary graduates do exceedingly well and went on to other top Int'l Schools. It's the teaching that YCIS sells, not the English. Parents who do not understand YCIS better not enroll their kids in it.
