港大畢業生英語成績最好
2014-09-27


        (星島日報報道)大學教育資助委員會昨公布應屆八大畢業生，參加統一英語水平評核計畫下的雅思（IELTS）成績。根據IELTS的九分制評分標準，應屆畢業生的總平均分為六點七六分，並且在聆聽及閱讀方面成績較好。八大中有七所的平均成績較去年進步，其中香港大學畢業生的成績最好，達七點二二分；香港教育學院成為唯一一所成績下跌的院校，只獲六點二九分，排名最低。
        

        統一英語水平評核計畫屬自願性參與計畫，今年有近一萬一千四百名應屆八大畢業生參加，佔畢業生總人數的五成七，他們總平均分為六點七六分。約八成二考生取得的總分在六點○至七點五之間，等同是良好或優良的英語運用者。
        

        在IELTS四個單元測試中，應屆畢業生在聆聽及閱讀方面成績較好，平均分為七點三○及七點三二分；在書寫及會話方面，平均分分別為六點○七分和六點一五分。
        

        院校方面，八大中有七所的平均成績較去年進步，港大再度成為畢業生英語成績最好的院校，達七點二二分，中文大學及科技大學則有六點九八及六點八六分。至於排名最低的教院，今年只獲六點二九分，並較去年的六點三三分輕微下跌，但有主修英文教育榮譽學士學位的學生考獲九分滿分的成績。
        

        教院回應稱，已在一二學年引入包含IELTS在內的「新語文政策」，要求學生須符合一定相關的語文出關要求，相信配合英語增潤課程全面改革，教院學生的語文水平將可得以改善。

六點二九分裏「講寫」好大機會其中一樣不到六分，即唔做教師政府工也做不了。

六點二九分真係好低。 七點二二分港大實致名歸。如果各大學開教育學位課程，香港教師水平有望提高。

6.27 平均分係低，無籍口，忽然只講英文系？英文系有7.5分，咁即係其他系好低分。 香港咁多英中，要好多英語好的教師。老實英文老師7.5分唔係好高。如果閲讀8.5，咁聽讀寫就唔係咁好。

6.27 分，叻個批學生小學己可考到。

A lot of local elite secondary school students can achieve a score of 8 by the time they are in Form 6. IELTS is, in fact, mainly used for university admission.
I would say a 7.5 is a decent score. But it is not even close to being a score to boast about.
But it appears that some college students are so proud of a score of 7.5.
Are we living in the same world or what

Thank you for filling me in with some more figures.
That actually makes me feel even more worried.
According to message #1 "至於排名最低的教院，今年只獲六點二九分.
If like you said a lot of people have 7.5, 8 or 8.5, how do we end up with an average of a mere 6.29?
Calculation of average (or mean, mathematically) = summing up all figures and divide the sum by the total numbers of figures.
Simple math tells me that a there has to be a lot of students who probably score as low as 5 or below.

我承認好多其他學系既同學英文成績未如理想，畢竟英文系和英文教育系加起來只佔小部分，個score都合理。如果你子女讀英文小學,我都替你擔憂，但照道理英文小學既校長會Test過先請，每個學系總有英文好既人。

I do not see how the average can be considered 合理. Hong Kong students start to learn English at P1 the latest. I have certain expectation, even from non English major.
Would you accept that a non math major student cannot multiply two digit numbers properly?
I would say Chinese, English and Math are 3 basics skills that everyone should maintain.
Thank you for your concerns. My kids are not in local primary schools.
And looks like this discussion is quite pointless if we have different values.
Better stop here.

其實成績擺在眼前，如何演繹，各有自由。教院只要畢業生水平高，便可吐氣揚眉了。

有人說，香港現在的英語水平，反映香港社會需要。我唔知這為真，定需要英語的工作己流失。

但香港人個個學十幾年英文，效果不彰，卻是事實。

IS 生或外國長大的人，以英語為第一語言學習，香港人以英語為第二語言學習，好難比。

但香港的 18% 精英尚且如此，十幾年英語是如何學的呢？
