中東 is where? It is a big area, some Hongkongers even think of the Indian sub-continent as 中東.

Yes there is an international school on HK Island where the vast majority of their students have middle eastern ethnic background, it is Carmel School.

Good question. Technically 中東 Middle East is currently residence to:
1) Arabs
亞位伯人  & 2) Jewish 猶太人

As one can tell from the name, Carmel is a Jewish school.
(Mount Carmel is one of the holy mountains in the Hebrew Bible)

Primary Medium of Instruction:
English/Hebrew
Student Mix - Top 5 nationalities (as at September 2009)

Israeli 33.9%
American 19.6%
British 17.8%
French 8.9%
Australian 4.1%
Jewish usually have caucasian skin tone with Greek like features.

樓主, given there really aren't that many Arabs in HK to constitute a large population within a school, and I have a feeling you are not referring to Jewish,  一間很多中東學生的 IS, do you mean 南亞裔人士 / 印巴藉學生instead?

Not really, Jews have migrated to many different places, some to Africa (e.g. Ethiopia), many Jews are black, it is just that they are less prominent than their cousins who migrated to Europe, but whatever their skin colour, their ethnic background is in the middle east {:1_1:}

Anyway, "middle east" could mean a lot of things, Arab, Persian, Turk etc, a bit like "far east" could mean a lot of things.

If you are asking about a school with the largest South Asian population, Delia School of Canada comes to my mind. However, apparently the top Nationality in Delia is actually Japanese 25.3% (266)!
Since i am on compulsory bed rest, i took the liberty to tally up schools with enough Indian students to make one of the top 5 Nationality within a school (data as at 2009-10).  Schools not shown here do not have a large enough population of Indian nationals (students with an Indian passport) to make the list, but doesn't mean they're not there (ie. i know CDNIS has a healthy dose of 10% Indians in the school, just with a western passport).

Note that Indian students are very hard working with good international view. They make great students (teachers love them), and good classmates (in encouraging our kids to study hard and understand the greater world around us).

ESF--
Beacon Hill School 6.7% (36 students)
Bradbury School 8.5% (60)
Glenealy School 12% (43)
Kennedy School 11.7% (105)
Kowloon Junior School 24.4% (220)
Peak School 4.3% (15)
--
King George V School 12.2% (206)
West Island School 10.2% (123)
(Just realized the ESF secondary with the best IB scores has a healthy dose of Indians in them)

Int'l School--
Delia School of Canada 16.6% (175)
Sear Rogers International School - Peninsula 11.1% (23)
Think International School 4.2% (3)

One school that stands out: Umah International Primary School [Yuen Long]
Pakistani 43.6% (24)
Nepalese 21.8% (12)
British 10.9% (6)
Chinese 10.9% (6)
Thai 5.5% (3)
This is more a school for the ethnic minorities in HK.

Either Umah in Yuen Long or Delia in Taikoo Shing could be the school you are looking for, but KGV has more Indian nationals by quantity than both schools combined...

Just out of curiosity, were you looking for the school with 中東人、猶太人 or 南亞裔人士?Was it Carmel or Delia or Umah the one you were looking for? I wonder if my induction was correct and the information listed helpful...

Are your friends 中東人? Which nationality? Jewish ? Should not be hard to get into Carmel if they are Jews. It is the best way to keep to their Jewish faith due to their dieting restrictions and Sabath practices. Hard for them to mix with others if maintaining their faith is important. If they are Arab of course they are sensible enough not to go to Carmel :D Any IS would have to do but Umah IS should have more Muslims although it is far.

On the other hand, if your friends are south Asians, I still wouldn't recommend Delia; review on that school is not that good. As I mentioned, most IS has a good 10% mix of ethnic Indians, so they don't have to worry about not having enough friends. Furthermore it is healthy for kids to mix with people of different nationalities as long as religion is not a huge concern. All my Indian friends somehow ends up in ESF, so if they can get in one it'd be good too.

You're welcomed. In that case make sure the parents know it is a JEWISH school. Jews are enemy to Arabs & Palestinians, and vice versa. Anyone with Muslim faith should avoid Carmel as well. When my husband and I worked in Dubai several years ago, we travelled around but had to avoid going to Israel, otherwise if our passport got an Israel stamp in it, we won't be able to get back into UAE!! Arab kids definitely should not go to a Jewish school ! (Persians & Turks may have similar problems too depending on their faith).

Given you have a 中東朋友 I'm surprised he didn't tell you more, but you're welcomed. Just don't wanna see the wrong student ending up in a wrong school (picturing an Arab in a Jewish school LOL). Middle East is complicated. Knew that from all the bible studies back in high school, but it's something else when you're actually living in the middle of Middle East :D

Just for your information: Carmel School is right opposite IS(Island School) which is at Borett Road. A lot of the students start off in Carmel School then will go to IS later.

Starting off in Carmel, then ending up in Island... does it mean the kids/parents are not happy with Carmel, so that Island like to accept Carmel students?

Carmel Elementary School in Borrett Road only offers up to Grade 5. (The High School section is pretty new and located in Shau Kei Wan). Hence it is quite natural from the historical records that the kids from Carmel Elementary would end up in Island School. Whether it implies Carmel is a good school or not ... is up to your judgement.
