Hi Jolalee,
May I ask if your Aussie friend's kid get into AISHK at last?
Why did I hear about some kids who didn't have to attend any interviews but can get a place?

My friend is waiting for the 2nd round interview, and the school will notify her in August. Given it is still May, it is 3 months in the future ;)
Re the case of getting in without school report and no interview, I've seen that one on this forum too. Honestly I don't work for AISHK and this school is not even one of our top choice, so we're just applying like everyone else and tell you what my friend and I experienced this year.

Why not give it a try if you really like GSIS? Of course, if you don't mind paying the $3k+ application fee and $4K+ assessment fee

You'll never know what will be the outcome if you don't try.

jolalee  Dunno. Between GSIS & CDNIS it is a tough call given learning sufficient Chinese in an IS is our 2nd criteria. Still, GSIS is academically stronger and that's my first criteria ... Thanks!  發表於 14-5-27 10:11

Is your child kindergarten age right now? Honestly it is hard to foresee what the HK int'l school competition will be like, or what our own children's academic level will be like 8 years down the line. Personally I'd play safe and choose a through-train school I am comfortable with all the way to secondary graduation without switching, and leave changing school as a possible option instead of something that would stress us over by then.
I'm Canadian & my hubby is Australian so for higher education we prefer Cdn or Auz as well. Given my husband's family are all back home whereas mine has all returned to HK, Auz University is a more viable option. However at this point we are looking at which school provide a better environment for our child and a wider possibility, that's why we chose the other IS for now.

Feel few to PM me for further discussion.

Bobolily if you are applying for Reception 2016, then you need to submit your application January 2014. Which month did you apply back in 2013? I sure hope the school has accepted it as a Jan 2014 application. The best thing to do is to call the school to find out as soon as you can. At the moment the school must be busy with the 2015 admission, that's why you received no news yet. You are one year early

Oh yes, u are right . I made a mistake. I submitted my application in mid Jan 2015, not 2013. :p
By reading what you previously said, I'm afraid I will be in the 2nd round interview next year as my application was not submitted on 2/1/2014.

LOL with all your typos on the dates
2nd round of interview should not be too much of a problem, for I'm sure some will fail the first round. Just ensure that your child is well prepared for the interview. I will find out from my friend about her outcome in a few months. Remind me with a PM when it's time ;)

Hahaha my typos of the dates are confusing :p

Thanks so much for all your information. My boy is a bit shy, I'm trying my best to train him to be more outgoing and outspoken when meeting different or new people. Hope he will be ok when the time for interview comes

For other schools to apply to, see my post12#
發表於 前天 11:04 , and I forgot to add ESF primary to the list. Since you mentioned that Chinese is important to your family, do consider SIS & ISF. You may also look into IMS primary, but I'd only recommend this school for parents who believes in the Montessori system and preferably have their children Montessori trained in kindergarten. I am sure there are many other options beside these.

As a general rule, schools with the mass intake at K2 or P1 and only accepts application 1 year in advance are good options (or that the date of application date is not a considering factor as long as it is before the deadline). I assume your child is born in 2011, and that is before Sept 2011? (Since she's already 3 years old now) Most schools calculate the child's age of entry by either the calendar year [jan-Dec of the same year] or school year [Sept-Aug]. (AISHK is the odd one out due to the Auz calendar; you just have to check their website for their exact calculation] I just hope she is not born in sept-dec 2010 otherwise she have missed a large chunk of options.

Again, apply to 5-6 schools in hope of getting into 1. That's the rule of thumb. Study each school to decide which ones to apply. Go for a few "dream schools" but keep at least 2-3 easier options as backups. (But sometimes the easier ones turns out to be harder to get in, so good luck!)

For preparation just wondering if your family is doing one language per parent? That's the most ideal way for a child's multi-lingual language acquisition. Always stick to the language you've decided to speak, never do chingish (two language mixed within a conversation).

(For some reason the site does not allow me to edit the last paragraph or to continue to write, so apologies for some unchangeable grammar mistakes in the last paragraph and that I have to continue with a new post).

Beside English acquisition and basic kindergarten knowledge, they also look at (or look for) certain characters. Just make sure the child is well rounded, friendly and well brought up. For the sake of interview, of course ensure the child is compliant enough to do what the teachers ask her to do. The older they get, the more it is based on abilities & language skills. Hope this helps.

Bobolily, it's the same question every AISHK applicant is wondering. I thought my friend would've made the first round of interview this summer with a mid-Jan 2013 application for 2015 Reception entry, but she didn't, so everyone is wondering which 2014 applications would make the first round of 2016 Reception entry interview next June, as in, how early is "early" when the school said "apply early"? (But it must not be earlier than 2 years prior to the year of entry)

I believe even if we call to ask the school today they wouldn't know yet either. From what I gathered the school would date chop all the applications they've received 2 years prior, and process it in March the year prior to the year of entry. (when some applicants like my family received offers from other schools and dropped the AISHK interview offer; smart & efficient timing to ensure those interviewing are still interested). For both Feipow and your cases, that'd be March next year.

Again, I wouldn't worry about making the first round or second round now that your applications are already being submitted. Just focus on getting the kids prepared so that they are ready to pass it, otherwise it wouldn't make a difference even if a child first in the queue ;) Good luck to you all!! Add oil!!

You are right, Jolalee.
I think if the kid will have the chance to be interviewed, it doesn't matter it's the 1st or 2nd round. Making sure the kid is ready for the interview will be more practical.
Thanks for the tips and useful information.
Btw, would you mind sharing with me which school you have chosen for your kid in the end? Pls pm me if it's not that appropriate to tell everyone in public
