Beginner course teaches a-z in alphabetical order. Its not a bad way to start if the kid has little exposure to phonics otherwise.
If the kid knows basic English, their method is way too slow.

I think if your kid can communicate in English with e.g. your helper at home, has gone through a-z flash cards and knows at least 2 words for each letter, then, the beginner course would be quite easy. Given the slow progress, I'd say its best for 4-5 years old who don't need a crash course and want to enjoy English lessons.
Personally, I don't agree with the Schoolhouse method, which doesn't become apparent until the intermediate course. You need to decide if you intend to continue after the beginner course, and if you are ok with their method.

My kid took the summer course.  Went through all 26 letters in 20 lessons.  Definitely did not split capital letters and smalls letters into 2 lessons.  Some kids in her class (4 yrs old) did struggle a lot and found the pace too fast, so it really depends on the kids' english standard.

Also, I don't bother with the assessment because I don't agree with the Schoolhouse method and will not put my kid through the intemediate course even though I know she is beyond the beginner level.

It is my philosophy that phonics has its value only in the context of english learning, and the purpose of learning english is to understand and communicate.  It is not a standalone skill.  It goes hand-in-hand with vocabulary and reading skills.  The reason I don't agree with the Schoolhouse method is that they don't need the kids to understand the meaning of the words they are pronoucing.  In fact, some of the "words" in the intermediate book have no meaning as they are not real english words.  By contrast, all words in the beginner course are real english words.  To reap the full benefit of the beginner course, the student should learn the vocab in the course as well, not just the sounds.

Very true!
I wish to add that NET is technically different from 外籍老師, which only means that the teacher holds a foreign passport. Buyers beware. A person who goes overseas for a few years and gets citizenship would be considered 外籍.
To be called NET, the teacher has to be native, which usually means the teacher was raised in an english speaking environment as a child. ABC/BBC/CBC would qualify.
