Please forgive me for not typing in Chinese. Translating from English to Chinese using Google translate and cutting/pasting really slows me down.
My physically active son is 3.5 years old and he loves having fun in the pool! We signed him up for a summer swimming class in Stan-ford (史X福) this summer. After 10 sessions, he can do freestyle for a few meters without buoy and kickboard. Since he likes it so much, we plan to sign him up for more swimming classes after the summer and would like to get some feedback from other parents:
1. Winn Tinn (泳X) has a location in Renaissance College (啟新), which is only 3 minutes walking from his kindergarten. However, their "幼兒班" (for 3-4 years old) is for level 1 only and with goals my son has already achieved. They refuse to let him join the "兒童班" (for 5-15 years old and level 1-6) and claim via the phone that they will adjust the level accordingly based on the kid's skill. From you own experience, do they really teach level 2 and beyond in their "幼兒班"?
2. Do you recommend us to stay with Stan-ford? I have some problems with their student administration in which they do not seem to have a clear idea of my son's progress after he switched to a different time in the second month of the summer class. The new instructors did not bother to check his progress handbook and put my son back to level 1 teaching him how not to be afraid of water when he can dive 1.5 meters down to pick up toys from the pool's bottom! Not sure if my experience is an isolated case or in general to Stan-ford.
3. Is a wetsuit needed for indoor/outdoor winter classes in Hong Kong? Is the heated pool warm enough in the winter? We bought him a wetsuit for other water sports but it is rather tight and provides extra buoyancy, both of which are negative for learning to swim. We would rather not use it at all.
4. In case we are forced to find a private/group tutor, do you have any good recommendation for serious learning in Ma On Shan district?
