小女今年9月會入讀小一, 想問今個暑假學校會安排新生適應之類的活動嗎?
因本身幼稚園有暑期班可以報讀, 但又擔心跟培僑的活動相撞(如有).

有冇過來人可以分享一下? THANKS!

想問下小一的英文科會否教 PHONICS? 如冇, 是不是要利用今個暑假上的PHONICS 班, 等佢易D應付小一的英文科?

Both chi and Eng class will teach basic phonics but if you haven't learned it before, it would be good to start it now so that they would have a better understanding and be more confident in the beginning of g1 school life. But the teacher will go through all basic concepts in a quick pace in my opinion, so if u didn't learn it before, they will not miss anything as long as they can understand and learn it during the teaching.

For your reference, Chi class will teach all phonics in the first term. My son learned 9 months pth before g1 and the chi lesson covered all he learned within 1 mth. Eng class will teach each letter sounds within first term and start simple 2 character blending at end of first term to the second term.

Thanks, JadeW. It's very useful to me. For Eng class, it seems reasonable to teach single letter sound within the 1st term. However, for PTH, it seems too fast.
My kid is learning PTH for a few mths at the kindergarten but pinyin is not teached. Do you mean that the school teaches all basic pinyin in one month's time ?

The school teached all Chinese pinyin within first term that is 3 mths time and what my son learned in 9 mths pth ECA classes within a month time. As their Chinese lesson mainly teach pinyin only in first term, it is an acceptable pace for teaching and learning but a little bit quick for a mom to follow. My son's pinyin concept and pronounce are very clear after the first term and much better than me now which I learned several pinyin course a long time before.

My child has always been more interested in English than Chinese. Will he have a difficult time adjusting? Also particularly for Mart being taught in PTH?
