Helenfun- have you considered getting your son's reading ability assessed?
Generally boys read later than girls so even if your son isn't reading at the same level as many of his classmates right now, he may very well catch up soon.
However I know of two cases - one is my cousin's son who went to HKIS and whose reading ability always lagged behind his classmates. He was a very hardworking and bright boy, and it wasn't until he was almost 10 when they finally diagnosed him as dyslexic.
The other case is my friend's son who is currently in Year 3 at Bradbury. He was also struggling a bit with reading and when she got him assessed, it turns out he was mildly dyslexic (only reversed a few letters like b and d, so made reading more challenging).
Honestly your son is still young and there may be no issue at all. But an assessment never hurts in my opinion, and in case there is something wrong, early intervention is best. |
