Which program you refer to?

Both are top 10 colleges in world university ranking.

All my friends' kids graduating from elite UK boarding schools got at least 4As in GCE A Level who got offers from either Imperial or UCL.

Two gave up the offers from Imperial and came back HK to pursue further teritary studies.

It seems that the entry to these two colleges is not easy and requires academic excellence.

Actually, my son has got the offers from these two universities and is still waiting for the decision from Oxford(11/1/2013). I think that it is quite difficult to get the offer from Oxford, therefore, I want to know more about  these two colleges.

No doubt, both are top colleges in the world. For science and engieering subjects, I would choose Imperial. For medicine, I would choose UCL.

There is a rumor that IC would eliminate the bottom layer students (some 10% to 15%) in the first 2 years to cater the transfer of the medicine students from Cambridge or Oxford. I do not know how true this rumor is.

Since your kid is waiting for the result from Oxford, I would guess that he applies for natural science. I feel few applicants would submit their application to Oxford for medicine as the quota for foreign student is 6 only.

Hope you can make it today.

It depends on the subject but Imperial College tends to be better.

For Cambridge and Oxford medicine, their website specifies the number of international students they are allowed to take by the UK Government (Cambridge 22, Oxford 6).

For other medicine schools in UK, most of them would specify the number of international students they would take. If you cannot find out the information from the website, just send an e-mail to the admission tutor and ask for the number of international students.

For other subjects (Oxford and Cambridge), they would not specify the number of international schools but you can find out the overall international students they take each year from their annual report. Usually, each of them admits around 10% overseas students.

The other colleges always claim that they set no particular limit on the number of international students (except medicine).

For LSE, their intake each year for all subjects is around 1,300 and their government funded spaces is around 750. So it admits around 450 international students each year.
