Is there any parents who knows sth about AIS. I read around the school website. I found that its high shool graduate students end up with very good universities of the States, Canada, Australia, even Hk. And the kids of primary school can directly go to their middle school. Why not many people apply for this one. And it seems that the American edu sys is more popular than IB in the world. And I went to visit their campus and feel it's pretty nice. Their tuition is only around 8000/month in the first few years without debenture. It's only around 1000 more than or equal to ESF P schools.

Very few people talked about this school. With above questions can anybody tell me why AIS has not good reputation as the other int'l schools?

Thank you very much

I heard that it's famous for drug abuse. I am guessing this could be a reason why parents are reluctant to send their kids there.

Drugs abused? They are talking about many many many years ago though. Drugs Abused problems bothering many IS at the moments, I AM VERY SURE SOME WELL KNOWN IS HAVE STUDENTS INVOLVED THESE CRIMINAL. They have been caught however no one reckoned that coz they are not on the newspaper.

Be frankly, go & take a look the school.
Alright, maybe most of u missed their school fair last Friday.

Honestly, the English level among AIS is up to standard, I won't say good, coz people has different standard in their mind.
I'm pretty sure they are speaking native English after couple years.

Well, my boy stay in AIS last year and fortunately get in ESF school this year. The only reason I put him in ESF just simply because of money. Coz' ESF is cheap though. All in one, hassle free, no miscellaneous fee. We can save up $3000 something a month.

To be fair, AIS is improving, my boy never speak Cantonese in school coz there's 4 canton boy only in class. In terms of foreigner percentage in class, AIS definitely got higher percentage than in SJS, RCHK, CAIS & Yew Chung.

AIS is in a smaller class size, about 20s a class. Teachers are pretty much caring about kids. But u gotta stand with their discipline issue, which is typical Chinese is not acceptable. They enjoy freedom everywhere in school. Even rolling in the playground without any teachers stopping them. They won't require kids having much rigid behavour in the classroom. AIS believed "let them roll"~~~~

To those targeted ESF, AIS might not be your cuppa tea. Coz' parents here never think of private tutorials or intensive training academically.
Right, I'm now undergoing a hard time in ESF school, parents are having obsession in that area. They will try to manipulate the standard/level in class by requisition and complains.

I'm not saying that ESF or AIS is good or not, someone going across both schools like me, can say both of them got their pos and cons.
See how's your thoughts and aim to your child in studying IS.

Thank you so much for such a detailed info. AIS is my backup if we can't get into other local English private/DSS school. Fortunately my son got one offer that I'm satisfied with recently. So I'm not considering AIS anymore. But IS will be my choice when my son get into secondary or high school. But I really think AIS is now in a raising period since they change a primary school head, a very nice lady and they rebuild some of their buildings last two years and it seems much different from what I heard from others. Their kids may be a little open compared with other IS school in HK, but they are polite enough compared with most of students in the States. I"ll keep one of my eyes on this school in the next few years. Thanks again for your info.

I changed solely because everyone said ESF is better. And very true that they are cheaper!
I'm now facing the problem that seems everyone here in ESF got a huge obsession of private tutoring. Maths, mandarin, English... Everything.
Well feed like those in local school. Parents always complain to the teachers about the level of study, claimed that it's too simple. Not enough homework.
Well, my boy not been well trained though, we never think of private tutoring. But now, we have to face it. Email from teachers to me asking for enhancement at home coz his Mandarin behind the others. So.... What can I do?
Going after them instead.

In terms of money, ESF for sure!!!!!!
I won't look back~ just hope he will be ok very soon.
BTW, the environment in ESF is nice. Schools with Govt subventions provided better hardware and resources. Which is AIS cannot compete with.
Anyway, I will stay positive. Every move with no regret.
