I wish to share with an actual case.
My son's classmate went to a Band 3 secondary school after completion of the Primary School. My son switches to an international school while his classmate continued to study at that Band 3 school until HKCEE. His score was 10. His parent then arranged him to study a boarding school in UK.
Because the different approach experienced by him, he picked up very well. After the first year, his AS level examinations were very impressive. His school recommended him to apply to Cambridge under the Wider Participation Scheme. [If your school's overall performance in public examinations is consistently lower than the national fitures as well as the schools in your district and your result is better than other students in your school, then the elite college would consider your application under the Wider Participation Scheme.]
At the interview, he successfully explained to the Cambridge Admission Tutor why there was such a great change in his academic performance under the two different education system. At the end of the day, he was given an offer to study science at Cambridge with the conditions of AAA, which was lower than their traditional offer of A*AA. At the end of the day, my son's classmate graduated with a first class honour from Cambridge.
