For this year, some conditional offers from CUHK just equivalent to unconditional offers, due to more spaces and CUHK competes with HKU for the same catchment.

The answer is yes and no.

According to CU, your degree should be oif GPA 3.8 or above or high 2:1 or 1 from a HIGH ranking university. This is still a difficult bar to overcome.

Perhaps you may wish to know:-

(a) you can pay deposit to one US college which is $500 to $700 (US). You cannot pay the deposit for more than one college because you are required to make the declaration at the time of payment.

(b) In case of UK, there is no need to pay the deposit until the conditions of offer are fulfilled.The deadline for payment is mid-August.

(c) If you have 2 offers from different local universities, at most you would pay twice. You would not pay the third time if the first two are your dream choices.

If that is the case, I think you will pay deposits for 3 times. Anyway, why not send an e-mail to the 2nd and 3rd university asking them to speed up the decision?

I am very sure that for CUHK, if you have received an offer from your first choice programme, they will still consider your 2nd and 3rd choice programmes. However if there does not seem to be any progress, contact the admissions office and they will contact you to see whether you still want to be considered. Ultimately, you can only accept one offer out of the maximum of 3.

It is true that your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices may be considered at the same time. Even if the 2nd choice program wants to give you an offer, it cannot do so unless your 1st choice program decides to deny your application OR you withdraw the application in respect of your first choice.

My D was interviewed for the 2nd choice program in November 2011 and her 1st choice program in December 2011. Although the 2nd choice program admission tutor told her that they wanted to give her an offer but they could not do so without the disposal of the 1st choice application. Recently, she was given an offer for her 1st choice program. After payment of the deposit, her 2nd and 3rd choice were declined.

Your choices seems to be risky cause your 2nd and 3rd choices are both hot programmes. It is stated in the HKU's admission requirement that BBA law & IBGM only consider 1st choice applicants. Although QF is not included but considering its past requirements you should expect the same treatment.

Does your son has anything to back up his application for MBB? I know a girl with IB38 was accepted by HKU because of her family background (all doctors). I am not acquainted to her, so can't tell you more. Certainly she has a brilliant profo to make her stands out.

Good reminder:

1. May have excellent IB PG, say 40/42, HL, 777. He will know the details early July.
2. Excellent CAS, his EE related to medical field.

3. Shadowing in both private and public hospitals, clinical practices and clinical research for 4 weeks in last summer.

4. Visit some regulatory bodies in Asia Pacific for Medical Device, say SFDA of PRC......

5. Recommendation from Professors and Consultant Chief....

Wow! Your son should have no difficulty to put together a very competitive application for the MBBS program. If he can add more about dedication and perseverance on a particular activity and how such activity helps him to develop interpersonal, organizational and leadership skill and being a team player, his application should be a A+ application.

But non-JUPAS, very keen competition. Wait and see.

I take your point, he needs to reconsider the choices and priorities after knowing the PG in July.

I know some boys applied HKU - BBA(Law), CUHK - Medicine, HKUST - Global Business.
