We are so lucky that Long Long get a p.m. offer but English Cantonese one from St. Catherine Kindergarten (SC), actually we are really surprised but happy for it. But based on the existing PN classes studying at York, Long Long really improves a lot and I do buy their Cambridge English Test and their own development computer system for English and Maths. They do have other tests to help to proof their students are strong in Maths, so the Principal said there is no need for parents to worry to have any extracurricular courses as they will plan for all and all certificates they will help to get and sure best suit and put in our portfolio for application for P1.

And actually I have no idea the curriculum of SC, many parents and KG teachers say it is good, creative thinking instead of spoon feeing and push harsh to students, but actually I don't know the methodology of SC how they train up students, will it be too relaxing then later it suits international schools, but I aim at traditional school so I wonder if it will be harsh for Long Long to pick up in P1.

Also, as the offer is English, Cantonese, I have to bring him to have Mandarin training (though at the moment I don't know if York will take him into English mandarin international class but based on how naughty he is as mentioned by his teacher over the phones 3 times, chance is low), I have to pay and find a good school for Cambridge English test training, any knows any good schools?

Are Students studying in SC good and good at English? What are the strengths of SC actually?

Thank you so much for your advice in advance.

I don't think SC students only suit international school. SC students can also suit traditional school well.

For those I know, they do very well in traditional primary schools. So don't worry.

However, if you are targeting public examination like Cambridge English Test, you need to apply yourself either trained by yourself or enroll classes outside.

Agreed with bb@wonderland.  Even though SC provides training thru activities, but it doesn't mean that it does not focus on disciplines and too relaxing.  For my girl, her english is quite well that I don't need to worry too much.  She can express herself in complete sentence in English and Cantonese.  However, for PTH, she is just so so as she is attending ENG/CAN class.  She has to attend a class outside.

thanks a lot for your advice.

Yes, as I want my son to learn more (of course won't force him if he doesn't like) as his speaking progress is slower compared with kids of similar age, I just want to see him have some improvements. For Cambridge English test, I am not sure if this is now popular for better chance for good P1, just heard from my friends recently they did take the course, and yes, the result surely an evidence of his abililty, haha, but I don't think my son can get good result as he is too active. Just try jar.

And yes, PTH is important so need to take course. Sigh, but we face the problem just like what we are doing right now as we have PN pm session, that he won't have a nap in the afternoon before school even he wakes up early in the morning or we bring him to play for an hour in playgroup (he runs non-stop), and time is too tight for going to schools for taking language courses in the morning. As we get pm offer from SC, we will face the same situation as well, and both my hb and I can't speak good PTH, whereas my maid can speak, but I don't think the pronoucation is correct.

Thanks again for giving me valuable advice.

Cambridge English Test - for starters, if you take the test in Hong kong, you need to reach the age of 5 for the test. If you want to take the test earlier, then, you need to go to China.

Cambridge English Test requires lot of spelling. For P1 admission, It may be used as a proof of your kid's English Standard, if you could acheive at least 14 shields. Apart from Cambridge, some parents also take Trinity / LCM exam. You may consider when you kid is in K2.

My boy when he was in PM class, he had lessons nearby in the morning, either 9-10am or 10-11am. For PTH, you can also consider private tutor , going to your home to give lesson. So it is not too difficult to arrange.

Of course, it also depends on whether there are any course centres near your home at a walking distances.

York is also a good kinder. If you find York suits your kid better, it is also a good decision to stay in York.
