Well, ESF kindergartens do not go by catchment area, and the initial assessment might be made from just the information given on the application form, after all, they do reject some applicants based on just that, so it may not be so unimaginable for them to redirect some applicants to ESF WKS without meeting them first.

Anyway, it is only my wild guess, but if we read all the relevant posts in this forum we would arrive at two interesting observations:-

(1) ESF often transfer applicants from their other kindergartens to ESF WKS but never the other way round.

(2) Students from ESF WKS seems to get offers from Renaissance quite easily but harder with other ESF primary schools.

Of course, my interpretation could be totally wrong {:1_1:}

My girl is in Cat 1, she's only 28 months old, she has been rejected after 2 visits of Abacus since she didn't talk, and now they said put her on waiting list, "maybe" will ask her to visit again after few months when she's a little older "if" there's a place available, does it mean no chance already?
I think it's so hard to get in Abacus than WKS, visit doesn't = 90% get offer, and they expect EQ rather than IQ.

If they call you for a 3rd play visit and if your little princess still refuses to talk, YOU will have to do the talking.

When I took my little girl for her play visit at ESF Tsing Yi, she was quiet too, and I was literally talking non-stop, suggesting to her what toys might be fun to play with, which book might be interesting to read, and asking her to give the teacher a hug at the end, luckily she was accepted afterwards.

If your child does not talk so they cannot tell whether she can speak English, at least show them she can understand English and will listen and act upon your instructions, and if your English is fluent it helps to make a good impression too. I can't say this is a sure way to get an acceptance but it beats doing nothing.

Of couse I was the one who non stop talking to push my girl, she can follow all instructions, but just no talk, she even counted to 18 in front of the teacher, but still been rejected, it is totally different here in Abacus, it's so easy to pass in TY or WKS by compare with here, they will ask like "what do u think the dinosaur is gonna do?" come on! what do u expect a 2 year old kid will answer this question?

我都面對過相同既問題同煩惱，我一對twins 一齊apply 佐WKS 但好不幸第一round 只係收佐一個！第二個就要2 in,但終於都只係waiting,果陣我立刻揾學校，我點可以分開佢地讀呢，要求學校諗諗我既處境，咁佢就解釋因為我個小朋友都唔講嘢，佢怕佢冇語言障礙，咁我話你要我點做你先相信佢只係怕陌生呢？可能我個Case 比較特別！於是佢比佐個offer 要我揾医生証明佢語言能力冇問題！咁我當然照做比埋報告終於都收晒2個！
所以既然你做小朋友係識既，不如同學校傾吓！但是一定要快！

As ESF kindergartens do not have catchment area restrictions, you can always request your application to be transferred to Wu Kai Sa or Tsing Yi if you think these schools are going to be easier, right? So why don't you do that instead of waiting for Abacus? {:1_1:}

Yes, agreed. Just wanna share with all those parents who really like their kids to study in EFS kindergarten. I've just got a call from WKS Kindy - they offer a place for my kid. My case is: I didn't turn up at the 1st round playvisit in Jan (forgot to call them up for absence either). However, the school would really follow up and had arranged 2nd round playvist for me which was scheduled in early Feb, Though I dun have much confidence for my kid (she is afraid of strangers too), I just let "faith" decide.
Don't be disappointed. You may try it out with WKS ESF.

FattyDaddy Remaining on the list means you still have a chance while leaving it means no chance, so why not remain? It costs nothing to stay on it. 發表於 12-2-27 22:35

yes, a school with no playground...sigh...i will just take it easy since I dont want to be a stressed mother.
Will apply reception of JIS for my son also, should be more opportunity.

Yes, you may try JIS. I've heard that JIS is good too. Last year, I'd submitted an application form to JIS for my elder kid for Y2. The school replied that the waitlist for Y2 is a bit long, however, since I have a younger daughter (2 yrs old by that time), the staff member told me on the phone that I can try reception class for my second daughter. She said chance is bigger.

Me and a friend of mine also did not take up the offer from Hillside. I am sure there are more seats coming out for those who are on waiting list.
