Once you change your birth certificate, all ID and passport are invalid immediately. You need to change all unless you don't leave HK!!
I have the experience of adding Christian name to the Birth Certificate.
If my memory is correct, the staff of Immigration Department advised that the HK passport and HKID card “will be” invalid once the Christian name is added to the Birth Certificate. If your child needs to travel overseas but a new passport and HKID card are yet to be available, he advised that you may bring along with the new Birth Certificate as proof of your child’s identity. However, he did not guarantee that your child is able to enter the country.
For overseas passport and citizenship card, HK Immigration Department is in no position to give an answer as it is not the issuing authority.
