Hi,

Just want to know which private/DSS school will look at both K1, K2 result and which one will look at K2 result only. And actually, will the primary school emphasis on the K1, K2 result as I wonder most Kinder will write good result, is it true?

May I know if you are concerned about whether only K2 result or K1+K2 results are reviewed? What are your worries?

Kindergarten results are just an indication for the primary schools. Interview performance is usually more important.

I don't think most kindergartens have "report cards" but just assessment reports. Primary schools will review these reports as background information but they may not be used specifically in interviews unless some items require special attention.

I'll try my best to share information and experience with parents in this forum, especially on procedural matters. I benefitted greatly from this forum - literally starting from scratch - thanks to the help of many here, including those you named, of course. :D

K1 K2 成績表都幾重要, 我仔仔本PROFILE 靠晒佢....(因為我仔仔冇乜特別CERT, 而家好多DSS/ PRIVATE SCHOOL都會要求附上學校成績)

Your assumption that "most of the kindergartens will write good results for their students" may be true to a certain extent, but it should not go so far as to hide known problems. Above all, it is the most comprehensive and least biased review that primary schools can get.

If you think kindergarten reports are biased, portfolios are worse.

What you need to understand is why primary schools require K2 (or K1 as the case may be) assessments, but it is not up to us to challenge them why primary schools need them. If they need the results, just comply.

The majority of Private Schools and DSS do require parents to submit school reports for both terms of K2. They ask for them presumably because they want to look at them so their importance cannot be understated. If your child’s kindergarten issues awards concerning position in class or if its school reports do mention your child’s position in class, you will be well-advised to redouble your efforts at improving your child’s performance in the major exams.

In relation to the importance of the K2 school report / assessment report, I would say it all depends on which primary schools you are targeting.

If you talks about St Paul Co-ed, DB and DGJS, you need to get full A / 5 stars to get shortlisted for second interviews. Unless your kids have a special background, e.g an elder sibling in the same school / a parent teaching in the same school, 80% of candidates in second interviews need to have an excellent, if not perfect, K2 school report.

I guess that's probably not true since my daughter's kindergarten doesn't give full A's to students. In fact, you hardly get many "A"s. But at this point, at least there are three offers from DGJS and one from co-ed this year (and certainly more who had attended the second interviews). The assessment report reflects more of the fact and give indications to parents to know which areas they really do well and areas where improvement are needed. I don't think this affect the chance of being offered.

Of course, it may be possible that these primary schools already have an idea there are different arrangement of some more popular kindergartens. For those which give full "A"'s, then obviously it will be important.

Just want to share that both academic reports and portfolio will not be examined in the first round interview of DGJS. Pure interview performance will be considered. This arrangement was already reported by 親子王. So, getting excellent academic results does not gurrantee getting offers from schools. Each school has its own requirements on selecting want kind of students it prefers.
