I just attended the Music Festival today, the performance of our school orchestra needs so much improvement.

The overall impression of the orchestra: a lack of good guidance by the teacher. I understand that individual abilities are limited (and cannot be blamed upon of not getting any prizes), but it doesn't mean that you cannot brush up on other aspects of the performance. Eg. stage entrance (no organisation, and clearly not thought of at all), the sitting postures, coordination of bows, eye contact with the conductor, the ending (I think particularly important in the synchronisation of motion.)etc.

One feels that the teacher is not giving her efforts of making the orchestra stage presentable. (as I recalled at the fund raising concert, the orchestra arrangement was a mess.) Even if the performers are out of tunes, at least you have to have some overall pose. That's the image of the school!

I wonder if she takes care to train each instrumental parts during practices, I heard she just leave it to the leaders to do it among themselves.

I am no musician myself, but today's performance just reflects on how much effort the teacher has put in: not enough.

我諗你有D誤會...誤會學校既樂團係黎拎獎....你可以諗下個entry requirements,就可想而家呢隊樂團係為自己學生而設,唔係為比賽而設.... 就連二級小提琴既學生,都可以入團,雖然係拉3RD,但可想而知點會好質素,但學生們都玩得好開心,可以令更多學生參與樂團,吸收多D呢D經驗...我女係呢度幾年...雖然轉左拉其他野,但學識左好多樂團既知識,應用到係其他地方/樂器, 如果你級數唔高,係其他學校,真係唔會有咁既機會...我覺得呢個安排好好....

同埋... 較高質素既小提琴手,都畢左業...

I agree with you and appreciate that the school's intention is not to get any prizes, but to give a chance for the students to get the performance experience. But I still think that they should at least tidy up the loose bits, like stage entrance, unified sitting postures, etc. etc. These are common sense and obvious stuff. Even if the students are musically accomplished, at least try to look like they are. I think this is part of the learning when you give a performance : show others how serious and confident you are.

The whole point of participating in the festival: not about prizes, positions and musical skills etc. it is about learning the attitude to prepare and perform music.

Simple really, the teacher has no heart, she may be good herself, but the students are not learning much from her, judging from her obviously "si-dan" attitude.

She was not even there when they gave out the mark sheet. Evaporated into thin air. Guess what the students think about her.

大概都知唔會第一名,留個人係度拎分紙都OK啦,D小朋友又要趕返學校,並無不妥,要知道樂團唔係樂器班,老師無責任教點拉琴,主要係教expression,要求既野都唔同,你以為佢是但,但一D都唔是但架..

I was at the concert that day and to be honest, I thought it may not be perfect in terms of the performance, and as a matter of fact, it was not. But the cheering faces and the reactions of those little kids before and after the event said it all. I think it is the participation, enjoyment of the kids and the opportunity provided counts. I understand you wanna keep the tradition 'honored' forever, but it takes time and so just let it comes. I am sure those littles gals will one day make us so proud again. take it easy.
