ICS - bullying in highschool? / 2 or 3 Chinese streams? [複製鏈接]

I'm seriously thinking of having my kindergarten children apply for ICS Shatin. I've heard many good things about their elementary school, but a friend has told me about serious bullying in the highschool, and also a lack of discipline (in the highschool section).  Is it just rumors, or can anyone share more on that?

I read from the website that there are 2 Chinese streams offered.  However someone told me there are now 3 streams of Chinese instructions???  How hard would it be to get into the top stream?  Or a more important question might be - do kids there see it as a "cool" or a nerdy thing to be included in the top Chinese stream?

ICS

What you heard is true. Elementary school is Okay. But the discipline and academic standard is not that good compared with other International schools in the same district. Brighter students opt for studying at other internationaal school.

Oh really, Victoriarosary?  Can you share some more? Heard that it's very hard to get in ICS nowadays coz its academic results has improved significantly in recent years and students are getting very good results in public exams (like SAT and AP), close to, if not better than HKIS.  Heard that discipline is very well among IS as it is very strict.  About bullying in high school, really want more of it's true.  Anyone can share?

a lot of bright students opt for studying at other internationaal school. academic standard is not high.

I recently got a friend’s comment ICS is really not that good now in middle school and they have switched their child to other IS. There are also some other students have such switch as well after primary.

About ICS

Sorry for the late reply. I have heard a lot of good words about it kindergarten. Teachers are caring and the curriculum taught is not as loosen as the one offered by any of the ESF kinders. My kid studied kinder in ICS. According to other parents of my kid's classmates, primary school is fine in the first few years. Teachers seem caring and there is a good communication between teachers and parents. (Teachers like to put on their best at work) There is a sudden increase of homework in P4 onward. Some students find it difficult to catch up. Students in middle school are not that well-disciplined. Don't expect they are bright compared to other IS like AIS, SIS. Of course, most of the students manage to get into universities in the end. It denpends on what universities they can get admitted to. In recent years, ICS prefers students from well-off families as some parents opt for other ISs once the $190,000 debenture is introduced.
That's all I heard.

I totally agree. kinder and primary school are still ok.
But middle school is very disappointing - no experiment in science lessons - teach like History, teacher just read from the book, Maths is hardly comparable to the standard of HK students..............very bad!

Could you please share with us from where you got your information regarding the bullying/discipline issues/academic standards about the middle/high school at ICS? I am curious because I have personally met some middle/high school students from ICS and they are indeed very decent teenagers who have good manners and do well in academics. If I recall correctly, I read that there is a G12 student from ICS who got accepted to Harvard. Considering that ICS having such a short history with much smaller class size than other IS and ESF, I would think that's quite impressive.

Harrypotter, I'm so shocked that there is no experiment in science lessons as they gave such good facilities.  Regarding Math, I do believe that's true.  HK students' math standard is very high and well-known internationally, so it's not surprising that IS students' math standard is not as high as them at the high school stage.
Bunniesmama, that's what I heard about ICS too.

My kid was accepted by three schools including this one. I checked the students' behaviour of each school when they were leaving. I checked their annual reports, newsletter...
