KCS KG before accepting government voucher was a "drill and difficult" KG (with dictation and test).........but after accepting the education voucher, it changed to a very happy KG for the kids and parents, but still with a fantastic environment for training the children's language development in both mandarine and English.
K1 - no Chinese nor English writing. They mainly focus on listening and speaking ability of Mandarine and English. Each day, 40 minutes of Eng taught by NET, rest time all in Mandarine. Jolly Phonics is being taught since K1. Almost no homework, even has is pretty easy.
K2 - in the 1st semester, writing almost every day. Take turn to write simple Chinese words, numbers, English letters from Mon to Fri, i.e if Mon write Chinese, then Tue write numbers, Wed write English........For English, the teacher continues to teach Jolly Phonics, with an add on of Oxford Story Tree story books. Eng time increased to 50 minutes in K2.
K3 - no idea as my kid is in K2 only. I only know Eng will be increased to 60 minutes.
No dictation nor exam/test from K1-K3 now.
The teachers do train the discipline and learning attitude of the children, but I believe family training is more important. |
