The Abacus BBQ Fun Day is just around the corner!
ESF BBQ Fun Day
Date: 27 November 2010 (Saturday)
Time: 11:00am - 3:00pm
Ticket: HK$40 for Adult and HK$20 for Children
Activities:
Go Kart, Games, Face Painting, Magic Show, Fancy Dress, Bouncy Castle, etc.
Remarks:
NO PARKING at school on Saturday as we need the space for the Go Karts.

Anyone will go there for a visit????

I just received the letter from ESF Abacus, my application is now placed on the waiting list, due to 180 applicants for only 88 places........some of the cat. 1 applicants are placed on waiting list also.............

I also received the letter from ESF Abacus yesterday.
Informal visit on 19th January.
They only have 88 places? on my letter, it only mentions there are 180 applications this year.
Didn't mention category 1 or 2.

I also got the letter from Abacus telling me my gal is on the waiting list. Without an interview my b is not accepted (at least not at the moment) already. I really doubt if this is a 'fair' system and wonder why they charge me $300 for the application!

I just want to share my experience -- my son studied at ESF TY and now is at DC.

Before getting into ESF TY, I also searched BK for info and also got the impression that cat 2 is difficult to get in. Yet, my son got admitted in the first round although i put cantonese as the first language of our family. I think whether one kid gets admitted is purely luck cos ESF didn't do informal play date back then. It is true that TY has large % of local students, at least 80%.

For P1 interview, I don't think ESF will check whether a kid can speak cantonese or not and use this as a criteria for NOT accepting him/ her. For my son, all interviewers were non-Chinese. Then how can they test his cantonese? also I know a few cat 1 cases that were not accepted or were put on waiting list in the first round. Yet, my son was so lucky to get a place. I was indeed very happy and surprised cos he is a Dec boy too..... one important note is that he actually could not speak very good English at the time of interview....

To conclude, being cat 2 is no blame at all. So many applicants but yet limited places only. Then of course, many will be disappointed when they can't get a place. Just be prepared and have back-up plans for your kids.

I am also waiting for ESF TY news for my girl application

I applied for TY but haven't got any reply abt interview / waiting list arrangement. We should be Cat 2 & my son is 0811 small b, small chance.....anyway....will see

we apply in Abcus too, also in waiting list. i guessed there is so many cat 1 peoples are living in this area (TKO ans sai kung). I think the chance for the place is very slim.

yes, I think so.....the staff asked to think about Ma On Shan ESF.....I said it is too far for me.....since I'm living in TKO!!!

I received the letter from Tsing Yi ESF today. My girl is in waiting list... the letter also suggest us to transfer our application to Wu Kai Sha Campus' waiting list.

Not news really.. My son goes to Abacus and when we went to the parents meeting, there were at least 5 pair of parents that day who claim themselves to be Cat 1 spoke really good Cantonese to the school bus company.

But Ms. Frances, the principal has always been very honest at the info meeting, that if you are Cat 2 and even being admitted to Abacus, your chances of getting into CWB school is near 0.

The general rule of thumb for ESF kindy is that if they invite you for a play visit, they have a place for you. They just want to meet with the child and make sure there is no special education concerns.

Several friends of mine, including myself, have applied ESF K1 (various campus) for our kids.  And seems that they have several different kinds of result letters to parents:
1)  Got place offered and invitation to play visit
2)  On waiting list but invitied to play visit
3)  On waiting list but no invitition to play visit and also advised parents to try other campus (i.e.WKS) due to long waiting list.
Any others ?

so Cat 2 at Abacus, can they all be admitted to RCHK then?
your son is now in K1 or K2?

Rabbids,

For those who are on waiting list but still got invitation to the playvisit, I believe they are consider and direct quote from their letters "...you are high on our waiting list...". I guess they would like to meet those kids during the playvisit as well so that they could make offer to them when seats are become available (sure not 100% of successful applicants would accept the offers, right ?)
