I also feel that dyslexic child may learn better in international school. My child is 6 and was assessed during last summer when she's 5. The result shows that she is a smart girl but is in the high risk category of being a dyslexic. She studied in international kindergarten and she learned English well. She can communicate in English without difficulty and her reading skill is above her age level. She loves writing and reading in English. She would write songs in more than ten sentences with melody, book with pages, rhymes, drawing instructions (teaching you how to draw).... she enjoys all these creative activities and she can do all day long (even though she would always day dream in school).
She did learn Chinese in kindergarten but she did enjoy it because she felt it to be too difficult. She always makes mistakes in writing Chinese (or sometimes in English even though she can spell words correct verbally).
After the first assessment in her local primary school, she's got all below average results except Mathematics. I have talked with her teachers who told me that the problem is with her ability of recognising Chinese words. For English, she made many "careless" mistakes (a bit below average).
The school exam arrangement and requirement make me feel that the teaching style may not suit my child's. She attends Saturday class in international school right now and she enjoys the class very much.
I am now struggling whether to change school for her. May I have some advice here?

2. Not necessary. Just too much effort is paid on rote memorizing the characters in learning Chinese. For English at l ... |
