Is Hong Lok Yuen International a good school?

I am interested to know if HLYIS is a good school?

How's the teacher to student attitude?
How's the academic background?
How's the behaviour of the student? (well behave or....)

Your comment is highly appreciated.

I am interested to chat with the mom who had kids studying in HLYIS. Please Pm me.  Thanks.

HLYIS is a really good, small community school.  The teachers are caring and the students all know each other.  I was walking a Yr 6 student across campus and a Kindergartener called the Yr 6 by name and asked why he has a new summer hair cut!

They are also very supportive academically.  They are doing IB PYP at school.  The students go on to ICHK, which is in Sha Tau Kok... really far away for some parents!

My kid is studying in HLYIS. It is a very good school!

The size of the school enable the teachers pay high attention to the students. Basically, the teachers know all the students and the students know each other well.

Since they do not have exam non test, it is hard to measure the academic standard. However, I am very happy with the progress of my son.

For the location of secondary school. I personally went there before and it is not that far as expected. It is actually around 10-15min drive from HLYIS to ICHK.

The nos of HLYIS students moving up to ICHK is increasing. I talked to some of Y6 parents and they will support ICHK. It is because we have full confidence of the management of the schools.

Thanks for your replies. It comfort me a lot after hearing your advice.

We have received the acceptance letter from the school and we need to confirm the school on the placement.

Are you both parents (Aprmum and Lottieclee) living near to Tai Po?  We lived a little bit far away from the school (Tsuen Wan). Therefore, the transportation would be bad for us as no school bus is running to Tsuen Wan line.

However, if the school is good, we may consider moving house that has the school bus facilities.

How's the year of your kid? Can we talk if you don't mind.

We are desperate to look for advice from the existing parents. Thank you.

Further to my post above, I wish to quote some cases happened on us to tell how the teacher pay attention and care about the kids.

1. On my son 1st day to the school, he cried out during lunch time because of some problems. The teachers settled it for us, subsequently we got a phone call from the hand phone of the VP (showing caller ID!) and an email from her. She does not only report the case and how they handled it, but also telling us the possible reason and how we should deal with it. She also comforted us that it happens on the first day to a new place :)

2. The school bus service was contracted out and technically has no direct relationship with the school. The bus mum told me that sometimes if the children are not listening up, once they reported it to the teachers, the teachers will come to the school bus and urged the children to behave. What’s more, the teacher will re-visit the school bus on next week to ensure the children behave!

I am not a parent of HLYIS.  I work there to support the children with special needs.  Among many IS that I go to, I would tell you HLYIS is very unique and well... "zen".   I don't know how else to put it.  I see everyone happy at school, from students, to teachers to supporting staff.

Thanks everyone.  I believe so much that teachers and parents in HLYIS are so helpful.  Thanks Lottieclee and Aprmum for all the sharing again.

Every school has its priority in admission.
In short, we are not living in HLY and my son was born in HK.
HLY is a school paying high attention of being "International". Application may be accepted as if the child can contribute to different aspects e.g gender, culture,.... etc

For details, you can refer to its web site.
