My daughter had interviewed both schools 2 years ago. My impression for both of them are good. Very nice and caring principal, teachers and staff. Only that Small world is a lot more spacious than KBCK, but at the same time KBCK is much more convenient than Small World since there is almost no public transportation to get there (except a mini van from Central or taxi, of course they have school bus serving HK side). Small World is montessori based, kids are free to explore at different corners of the class room under teacher's supervision. But I also heard that some parents only treat it as playgroup (for English Immersion!!) as they have no academic learning (in terms of writing, maths, phonic etc), so they put them in for kids to learn conversational English. So the pm class has quite a few kids who go to a different kindergarden in the morning.
I picked Small World just because we finally resided in HK island. Otherwise, both are good schools to me. I guess you should also pick the one which is closer to where you live, unless you plan to move close to the school you choose.
In terms of acceptance to ESF primary. I only had experience at Small World, all kids in my girl's class have interview opportunities no matter Cat 1 and Cat 2 (for 2009 Y1 intake only). And teachers from ESF had visited the school and observed the kids before scheduled interviews. Mind you that was over a year ago. I heard this year the application is more than previous years and I am not so sure about the situation now.
Hope it helps. |
