Dear mommies, in the parents talk last week, the english teacher asked us not to bring kids to learn other phonics courses as this will be taught at school.

Initially I was planning to have my kid learning RWI. After listening this, I'm thinking if I shall go for it or not. I personally quite like the idea of RWI, however also don't want my kid to get confused or duplicating on what he will learn at school. Any sharing?

Also, apart from school, will you also bring your kid to other english playgroup?

Well, I don't agree it in the parents talk. I think the learning pace is slow at school. And I think children can learn phonics faster in learning center. RWI is really a good program and my daughter is learning now. She can now easily handle many 3 or 4-letter words pronunciation. RWI is from Oxford University Press. St Catherines also uses Oxford story books to teacher English.

Enjoy RWI.

thank you chewsyc! Seems your daughter is a proven success story..

May I know at what age you daughter started RWI? my baby is just 3 years old but actually he speaks quite fluent english already (as we speak english at home). do you think we can start now? (Though RWI is meant for 4 years old kid only, but they said some kids can learn earlier if they can pass the assessment.) Please share your experiences to me if you don't mind.. (RWI is pretty expensive)..

Personal speaking, I total agreed what Mrs. Wu (Head teacher of English in SC) said.
SC provided a chance of basic learning Phonics, it's good enough for them prompt to P.1.
I prefer to let my daughters enjoy other extra activities instead of phonics like English drama, Speech learning, ballet or musical instrutments that more fun for kinders.

My daughter started learning RWI when she was 3.5 yrs old in this year summer. She started learning in the Foundation level. She can now know the blending and the segmenting after 2 months. How amazing she is! We do speak English at home! ^^

Here's the website you can take a look: www.readwriteinc.hk

I totally agreed Phonics is good on reading and spelling.  However, step by step from school.
If the student has the tutorial outside, they don't have the interest studying in school as they've seen it before.
